Black Twitter Drags LiAngelo Ball About His Tipping Philosophy

LiAngelo Ball explained why he doesn’t tip service industry workers, and Black Twitter drags him for filth.

Despite being a multi-millionaire, NBA player-turned-rapper LiAngelo Ball said when he goes out to a nice restaurant, he refuses to tip anything over $20. His bill could come up to $3,000, and Ball still isn’t having it. Now, folks online are dragging him for filth.

The standard rule for tipping in the U.S. is 15 to 20 percent of the total bill… but not according to Ball. During a recent episode of the “Ball in the Family Podcast,” Ball and his co-stars– Lonzo Ball, Darren Moore, Anthony Salazar and special guest Michael Porter Jr.– debated if “tipping culture has gotten out of hand.” Ball stood firm in his refusal to properly tip, and now, he’s paying for it in the form of social media reactions.

“Please tell dude to just shut up and dribble,” @WillieBeamon wrote on X.

@DustinBrown08 said, “rich dudes b****ing about tipping 20% is f***ing insane. gelo is a clown bro.”

“If ur not tipping 20% on dine in meals ur an asshole. (Unless the service was actually atrocious),” @MrWhatley tweeted.

“This is why I over tip,” @CaptMaga76 wrote.

On the podcast, Ball admitted, “If I’m at a restaurant, I’ll leave a little tip… I can get, like, a $400 meal, and I’m only giving a $10 or $20 on how you was on that night. That’s how I rock, for real.” Given that the millionaire just celebrated his debut song, “Tweaker,” reaching platinum status, many folks felt Ball doesn’t have an excuse not to tip service workers.

“I don’t agree with that. I give $10 tips right now so if I had rich ppl $ I would definitely tip a lot more,” @reesxntana tweeted.

“You can spend 250 a day on Ubers but you can’t tip your server 20 percent lol never let the fact these people play sports distract you from the fact that they’re very much included when we say eat the Rich,” @TRENCHCOATOPERA wrote.

Some folks agreed with Ball, however. @TymxTym said, “If I’m paying 3k for a meal, I’m not leaving no tip lmao.” Still, the majority of users didn’t share the same sentiment.

“N****s with YT mamas remain my least favorite,” @OhMyMikeya said.

On average, food service workers are paid significantly less than minimum wage. New York servers are paid $5.50 per hour, but in other states like Georgia, servers make only $2.13 per hour. In most cases, they earn their living based on customer tips.

“I hate fake ghetto n****s like they all sound poor and tacky as hell. If you have thousands of dollars and you’re ‘balling’ b***h tip,” @HildyMoney wrote. “People like this is why gratuity is automatically taken out in certain places. Rich people stingy as hell.”

@DamianPhk pointed out, “And this is why you see restaurants adding gratuity on the bill… because people wanna fine dine but don’t wanna tip the people that are taking care of them…”
