The man— @noturningback_98 on TikTok— is a truck driver who came to North Carolina on June 28 to deliver mulch. According to him, he arrived to a landfill around 5:45 a.m. and an “employee approach me and told me I was not supposed to be there that early.”
After a brief conversation, the employee left, but the son of the owner approached the Black man and had “quick back-and-forth” Eventually, the man said he followed orders and went on his way.
Around 20 min later, the owner’s son allegedly came back, but this time, he had “five guys and his pistol hanging from his waistband,” the driver claims. The mob allegedly confronted him over the son’s accusations that his phone was stolen. “After about 30, 40 minutes of him accusing me [of theft] I let him search my truck,” the driver said on TikTok. After the search and a review of security footage, the men let him go… but that’s not all that went down.
@noturningback_98 was at the top of the landfill when the men allegedly came back and forced him back into his truck. That’s when the Black man started recording the incident.
“Get in the f*****g truck!” One white yelled at the truck driver. “The sheriff’s department is coming to get rid of you and your f*****g mutt, so stay in your truck before something bad happens,” he continued.
One white man even claimed to be the sheriff, although he didn’t have a badge. He can be seen in the video wearing a Wright Brothers Construction and slamming the driver’s door. The driver later claimed this injured his dog, Coco. “She doesn’t ride on trucks anymore, so she’s home with my family,” the man said of his dog after the incident.
The now-viral video was also accompanied by footage showing bulldozers blocking in the Black man’s truck and eventually tipping it over. They also ordered the man to stop recording. “Him [the son] and his friends and guns and start to run after my truck and attack me opening my door,” the man said.
Now, the truck driver is looking for legal representation. Meanwhile, the men allegedly responsible for the attack have yet to be formally identified.
