Spend just a few minutes on TikTok and you’ll find enough clips of moms showing off their cute kids’ antics to lose an entire day. But one Black mother is gaining popularity online as she tries to convince her followers that the adorable daughter, who shows off her superhuman energy in every post, is biologically hers.

Alex McCurry, who is Black, shares three children with her husband Rob, who is white. Although the oldest two, ages 8 and 6, present as clearly mixed race, it’s their youngest, a 3-year-old daughter who they affectionately call “Pudge Pudge,” who is getting all of the attention online for her fair skin, blonde hair and blue eyes, leaving some to think that she came home from the hospital with the wrong family.
Even McCurry was caught off guard when she saw her daughter, who was conceived by in vitro fertilization, for the first time.
“I’ll be honest with you, one of the things I thought was somebody made a mistake,” Alex told PEOPLE in an interview.
Mom manages to keep a good sense of humor about all of the questions about Pudge Pudge’s genetic identity, posting their family adventures on TikTok as 4thFreshestMcCurry. In one post, she explains Pudge Pudge’s lighter complexion by saying, “mommy ran out of toner” when they were making her. Mom added that they will continue to have age-appropriate, science-based conversations about genetics with all of her kids.
But McCurry also takes time to address the haters. Like in this clip when she takes time to respond to a commenter who wrote, “So nice of you to adopt these kids.”
“At least she didn’t say I was a good nanny,” McCurry said. “It’s been two years of this! They’re biologically mine, all of them. Black people have kids that look like her too.”
Commenters took time to cosign, including a scientist who weighed in to help shut down all of the negative comments.
“Biologist here: to all those saying that baby can’t be biologically hers, you know much less about genetics than you think you do, thanks,” they wrote.
Another commenter was quick to remind anyone who has doubts of all of the amazing things Black woman can do.
“When will they just accept the fact that blk women are magical,” wrote someone else.
McCurry says she will continue to love on her tribe and go high when her haters go low.
“I try to handle it with grace and patience because this is not the most common-looking kind of family, but at the end of the day, it’s none of anybody’s business,” McCurry told PEOPLE. “Like, as long as the kid looks healthy and is doing great and looks like they’re in a loving situation, that’s what matters. So coming up to us and saying anything is really exposing [the] racial bias that you have.”
