In news that can only be described as “Mariah, you might be in danger girl,” singer Mariah the Scientist and rapper Young Thug have just reached a major milestone in their relationship. But unfortunately for them, not everyone is viewing it as good news.

As you’ve probably seen on social media by now, Thug recently proposed to Mariah onstage during his “Hometown Hero: Young Thug & Friends- A Benefit” in Atlanta. While she was standing there, the “Go Crazy” rapper popped up behind her and got on one knee while holding up a ring. After seeing his movements on the jumbo screen and a giant “Will You Marry Me?” sign–Mariah turned around and froze in shock. After a bit of nudging from Thug, she eventually told him to put the ring on her finger and told the crowd: “I guess I’m getting married!”
However, instead of this occasion being widely celebrated by the masses, it’s causing a divide between folks on the internet. The main reason is because Thug was allegedly unfaithful to Mariah while he was behind bars in relation to the YSL federal RICO case of 2024. This info was brought forth earlier in 2025 after a litany of leaked jail phone calls were blasted online when the “Best Friend” rapper was talking sweet nothings to a few other women who definitely weren’t Mariah.
So it’s no wonder why more than a handful of people aren’t too thrilled at the thought of her saying “I do” to a man that’s embarrassed her in such a public fashion. And they recently took to social media to express as much.
“The thing is Mariah the Scientist is like watching your homegirl get cheated on and lied to publicly and trying to muster up the congrats when you don’t like her “man” because she deserves better. But SHE has to feel she deserves better. Thats why I said as long as she’s happy…because I got nothing else,” wrote one user on X/Twitter.
“Girls like mariah need to stay FAR away from me , i hate that dumb ass shit,” said another.
“Twiddle-Dee and twiddle-dumb idgaf no mo,” one other person wrote.
However, there were others who defended the new betrothal and argued that at least the “Burning Blue” singer was getting a ring before popping out a child, unlike some other artists.
“Ok so we’re mad at Mariah for being a fiancé and we were proud of Cardi for becoming a baby mama?” another user questioned.
“Mariah the scientists got a ring before a baby and y’all still angry, your homegirl on her 3rd baby daddy why aren’t you angry with her,” one user said.
Added another person: “Unpopular opinion… Instead of always having negative things to say just pray for her and hope Thug treats her right.. Yall thrive off of negativity vs wishing her the best… but yall be dumb for broke niggas without a ring…I love Mariah I pray everything works in her favor.”
