Bad Bunny, the Puerto Rican sensation behind the hits with Cardi B and Drake, is no stranger to making major news headlines. On Sunday (Sept. 28th), the NFL confirmed that he’ll headline the 2026 Super Bowl halftime show. This marks the second year in a row the league has tapped an artist some conservatives deem “controversial: ” Kendrick Lamar ruffled feathers with politically charged symbolism in his 2025 performance.

Earlier this year, Bad Bunny canceled U.S. tour dates in response to nationwide ICE raids. So it’s no surprise that his upcoming halftime show announcement stirred up both hype and backlash, and MAGA wasted no time in voicing its complaints.

“Of course the NFL would announce a non-US citizen for the Super Bowl halftime show,” one Threads user wrote. “Right on queue.” Others echoed the same sentiments, completely fixated on his citizenship status. “This is who was just picked to lead the 2026 Super Bowl halftime show,” an X user posted.

Conservative commentator Benny Johnson resurfaced Bad Bunny’s reasons for the U.S. tour cancellation. “He even canceled his entire U.S. tour for this reason: “F***ing ICE could be outside my concert. And it’s something that we were talking about and very concerned about….The NFL is self-destructing year after year,” Johnson tweeted.

Commenters took it further by saying, ”President Trump should announce that ICE will be checking papers at Superbowl, especially Bad Bunny’s crew and family.”

But while MAGA kept circling with the same points about ICE and Bad Bunny is “American,” the internet quickly gathered them — blasting conservatives for forgetting that Puerto Rico is, in fact, part of the United States. One TikTok user summed it up best, saying she was “entertained and disturbed at the same time” by MAGA’s lack of education.

Others are tuning out the MAGA noise completely, flooding TikTok with hilarious videos of how they’re gearing up for the performance. Creator @TheLuncheonLawyer posted a viral clip acting out what the night will look like:

“Oh well, I guess we’re not watching the Super Bowl this year because who is Bad Bunny and why is he gonna perform in Spanish?” she mimics, channeling online commentators. Then, pulling her glasses down to stare into the camera, she shuts it all the way down with: “Baby, who is we?” before breaking out into a Bad Bunny song.

The comments section agreed. “As far as I’m concerned, why is there a game of football being played at a Bad Bunny concert?” one user wrote. Another chimed in, “I hope he say NOTHING in English! I’m so excited!”

The announcement is even creating unity among the Black and Latin fans. Creator O’Neill Thomas posted a hilarious video of himself trying to learn Bad Bunny lyrics, accompanied by touching comments like “You’re doing good sweetheart,” one TikTok user wrote.

Another wrote, “So many bilinguals in the making! I love it.”

A third chimed in: “Thank you for making an earnest effort to learn the lyrics so that your Superbowl halftime experience  is amplified.”

And on Threads, one hilariously summed up Black folks’ excitement perfectly: “Bad Bunny doing a whole show in Spanish ain’t no problem for Black folks. We are the cousins of Selena.”

Bad Bunny will be performing live during the Super Bowl halftime show on February 8, 2026.
