The church community has been relatively drama-free since folks got over Marvin Sapp locking the doors on his congregation in a fundraising plea. But now, Bishop Marvin Winans has found himself in hot water for a similar issue, and folks online are not holding back their thoughts.

In a clip that has gone viral, the founder and lead pastor of Perfecting Church in Detroit was accepting donations from churchgoers to raise funds for the place of worship. As one woman and a young boy got up to sow their seed, Bishop Winans could not hide his disappointment after he heard how much money was in the envelope being handed to him.
Standing at the front of the church with a microphone, the woman spoke, “I, Roberta McCoy, give in faith and stand in unity with the vision of Perfecting Church by sowing this seed of $1,000 plus $235 and receiving the blessings to come to all that participate.”
As Winans took the envelope from McCoy, he gave a very curt response, “Now, that’s only $1,200.” An awkward second passed before the Bishop added, “Y’all not listening to what I’m saying… If you have a thousand plus a thousand…”
Understanding what Winans was hinting at, the churchgoer added that she would work on getting the other $800, which would bring her total donation to $2000, but Winans wasn’t hearing it as he shook his head and turned around to look at his band.
While you can hear the congregation laughing in the background of the video, folks on X found it to be anything but funny and had thoughts about how Winans runs his church.
“This pimpin’. Not preaching. Get away from this church,” wrote one user.
“‘Imma work on the other half, ‘ my sister take yo $1200 and leave that church,” added another.
On TikTok, user @nosybystanders stitched the video and said that she would’ve snatched her money back from the Bishop.
“For you (Bishop Winans) to get up in that funky pinstripes suit and tell her that wasn’t enough is crazy, because $1200 in this economy, Pastor Winans, Bishop Winans, whatever you call yourself, is a lot of money.”
