Trump once declared he was in “perfect health,” but after photos began circling the internet of his legs, Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt announced on Thursday (July 17) that Trump’s been diagnosed with a “benign and common” vein condition known as chronic venous insufficiency.
When the news reached X, many Black folks were less than compassionate towards him. “Don’t worry, America, Trump’s swollen legs will be fine. He only cut your healthcare, not his,” @acnewsitics tweeted.
@covie_93 said. “Donald Trump becomes the first person on Jeffrey Epstein’s list to be diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency.”
The administration has been under fire after refusing to release the sealed case files of Jeffrey Epstein, the financier and disgraced sex offender who committed suicide in 2019, according to the Department of Justice.
Folks like @iam_YoungShozy completely skipped over Trump’s diagnosis to focus on the Epstein case. “Where is the Epstein file tho,” he asked in response. Others called Trump out for his past attacks on former President Joe Biden’s health. “This is someone who said terrible things to Joe Biden when he was diagnosed of cancer,” @Owula_Kpakpo added.
According to health experts, Trump’s swollen ankles are indicative of him being at stage three of the condition, which begs the question: How long has Trump known about his diagnosis? Secretary Leavitt revealed the president is not in pain despite his condition.
X users joked that the administration has been known to “fudge” the truth in regards to Trump’s health. “Remember how they said he’s 6’3 220,” @Terrell_McKay said.
“Take him in his sleep. Please,” @TundeSilk said.
“Streets saying it’s not life threatening,” @heyheedie tweeted in disappointment. Others like @MewZe_ shared the sentiment, noting that his condition “‘Does not directly impact life expectancy.’”
Still, some people warned this is not the time to celebrate anyone dealing with health issues, no matter how you may feel about them. “Hope all yall know yall we all gotta die one day and face the same faith yall want the president to face,” @kusooo10 said. “Jus don’t forget that.”
“Praying for trump,” @sTYLISHLY_uRS said. On TikTok, @greedymacc33 said “I never thought I would have to say this, but I really respect the man. I look up to him as a mentor, as far as being a leader and running this country.”
“Get ready for the ableds who spoke out against the injustice of defunding Medicaid and disability to say Trump’s diagnosis is karma,” @Olas_Truth warned. “I hate Trump, too. But chronically ill people can hear you when you say people like us did something to deserve becoming sick. #ableism.”
