Black America Reacts to Trump’s Takeover of ‘Chocolate Cities’

As Trump rolls out his plan to reduce crime in cities around the country, the Black internet is reacting.

President Donald Trump has been testing the limits of his power with his recent deployment of National Guard Troops in Washington, D.C. Arguing that crime is running rampant in the nation’s capital, Mr. I Alone Can Fix It believes this is the best solution to get things “under control.” He’s even publicly mused about taking the show on the road to other major cities, including Chicago, New York and Baltimore.

Black people have been speaking out on social media about how they feel about Trump’s latest move and warning others that he’s only getting started.

Here is just a sample of what Black people are saying on social media about Trump’s takeover of the D.C. Metro Police.

Who Voted For This Guy?

One X user took the time to call out people who didn’t heed the warnings about how Trump’s agenda would impact Black communities during the election cycle, saying that threat was always in our faces.

“You were stupid on November 5,” he wrote.

Stoking White Fear

@thebwstimes

🚨 The Trump Administration just took over D.C.’s police department — and don’t be fooled, this isn’t about “catching criminals.” It’s about stoking white fear and painting Black people as dangerous. In less than half a day, they began posting mugshots of Black men, reviving the “criminal thug” stereotype. 📉 FACT: Violent crime in D.C. is at a 20-year low — the lowest in 20 years. They’ve been running this smear campaign on Latinos since Trump took office. Now, it’s aimed squarely at Black communities — an anti-Black, anti-Brown agenda disguised as “public safety.” We see it. We won’t be silent. #StopTheStigma #BlackLivesMatter #DC #police #mpd #trump #maga

TikToker @thebwstimes said don’t get it twisted, Trump’s plan has nothing to do with stopping crime, pointing out the fact that the administration has posted only photos of Black men they’ve arrested on the official White House social media pages.

“This is about stoking white fear, making Black people seem dangerous,” he said.

Don’t Overlook the Racism

This X user said Trump is trying to use crime statistics that aren’t even real to justify taking over cities that are led by Black mayors.

“Has anyone noticed the racism”? she asked.

Part of the Problem

@reeciecolbert

First of all FDT! Second of all I’ve been disgusted seeing Black people rationalize Trump’s racist takeover of DC because “the kids are out of control” (and if it don’t apply let it fly). If you are still foolish enough to think that Trump’s unleashed military presence will only target the *bad ones* then you are unhinged. Nobody should take comfort from increased racial profiling and police indemnity for a 30 year low problem. #reeciecolbertshow

TikToker @reeciecolbert reminded us that it’s no coincidence that the idea to bring the military into a city with large Black population is coming from the same person who wanted to shoot Black Lives Matter protesters. She adds that Black people who are trying to rationalize what Trump is doing in D.C. are part of the problem.

“For anybody to believe that Donald Trump coming in with the military is a solution, and for anybody to think even after all that we’ve seen from this administration that it’s only going to impact the so-called “bad ones” is irrational.” she said.

Black Spaces = Police Presence

@justwaynecreative

Unlike the all white community in the Ozarks, cities with large black populations are the target of the Trump administration

♬ original sound – Just Wayne

Just Wayne had a response for those who think Black people should just live in communities of their own – when we try, you burn them down.

“Every chance Trump has to talk about Black and Brown folks, he only conveys the ideas that we are not as smart, that we are inherently violent and that we are less than,” he said. “As soon as there are majority Black spaces, there’s a police presence. And when there’s a police presence, there is an increase in criminal activity.

Educate Yourselves

@tammytheblackprepper

Martial law is when the military takes control over normal government functions and law enforcement, often during emergencies, unrest, or war, temporarily replacing civilian authority. #washingtondc #fyp #martiallaw

♬ Spooky, quiet, scary atmosphere piano songs – Skittlegirl Sound

Tammy on TikTok is warning Black Americans to educate themselves as Trump continues to push the boundaries of his power, suggesting we educate ourselves on martial law and have an exit strategy in case we need to leave the country.

“Position yourself and become knowledgable about what’s happening in this country,” she said. “It’s very important.

Bringing the Cops to Our Front Doors

TikToker @ladypink93 says that the move to bring the military to Washington, D.C. is the government’s plan to engage Black people in the streets who have otherwise said they are no longer willing to put their lives on the line by protesting.

“We didn’t get out there and protest, so now he’s bringing the cops to our front doors,” she said.

A Distraction

Wisconsin Representative Gwen Moore hopes the National Guard can help President Trump fulfill one of his major campaign promises that he seems to have forgotten about.

“Maybe while the National Guard is in DC, they can find the Epstein files that Trump refuses to release,” she wrote on X.

The Black Boogeyman

@_realdlhughley_

THERE’S NO “COINCIDENCE” IN THE FACT THAT TRUMP IS CONTINUING TO LIE AND ATTACK BLACK LEAD CITIES USING THE “BLACK BOOGEYMAN” PLAYBOOK!! #TeamDL #RealSpill #TheRealSpill

♬ original sound – DL

Actor and comedian DL Hughley says Trump knows that no one is paying attention to the real crime statistics in the cities he’s targeting, which makes it easier to push his own narrative.

“THERE’S NO “COINCIDENCE” IN THE FACT THAT TRUMP IS CONTINUING TO LIE AND ATTACK BLACK LEAD CITIES USING THE “BLACK BOOGEYMAN” PLAYBOOK!!” he captioned his post.

The Autocratic Playbook

Representative James Clyburn says Trump’s tactics have been ripped straight from the pages of a racist autocrat’s playbook.

“Lock in power by manipulating the maps and impose it through force – that’s the autocrat’s playbook,” he wrote on X.

Why Were We Misled?

TikToker @thehandsomeliberal wants to know why President Trump can magically deploy the National Guard now, when he wasn’t able to do so during the violent events that took place at the U.S. Capital on January 6.

“Now that Trump has been our nation’s Commander in Chief for seven months or more, he has shown that he has the capabilities and the power to deploy the National Guard three times,” he said. “So the simple question is, when he stated he could not deploy the National Guard on January 6, why do you think he lied about that?”

Liberation Day

But not all of the feedback on Trump’s plan has been bad. TikTok user @king_millenial_ent2 says he voted for Trump because of his tough stance on crime adding that the help is need to make the streets safer

“The crime in D.C. has run rampant and it’s about time that people can now have faith and trust in law enforcement and be able to walk the streets and not get hit over the head or mugged,” he said. “I mean, why would anybody be upset with that?”

Hold Your Elected Officials Accountable

@sheisimanib

DC’s Mayor and City Council provided Trump with the perfect set up to criminalize Black communities and the homeless population of DC! #dc #washingtondc #murielbowser

♬ original sound – Imani B.

TikToker @sheismanib says that we should also continue to hold our local elected leaders accountable, particularly when they cut programs designed to help Black families.

“Until people are willing to hold their local officials accountable for the ways in which they are failing their residents daily, it’s just a matter of time before one of your “blue cities” or states is on the chopping block.” she said.
