The details of the kidnapping and robbery were released on Thursday (Apr.2) during a press conference by Ryan Raybould, U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Texas. During his time, he explained that in January, Gucci and two others were headed to a Dallas studio to conduct a business meeting arranged by fellow rapper Pooh Sheisty (legally Lontrell Williams, Jr.) to discuss the terms of his recording contract. Sheisty signed with Gucci’s 1017 Records label in 2020.
However, Sheisty allegedly wasn’t by himself and instead arrived with eight other people, all of whom reportedly traveled from Memphis. Per Raybould, that’s when things took a turn with him sharing that “instead of discussing business in a civil manner, the defendants [Sheisty and the others] resorted to violence and intimidation to achieve their purported business objectives.” Specifically, the group is alleged to have “executed an armed takeover,” per the DOJ complaint, with Sheisty himself allegedly pulling out an AK-style pistol,” forcing “one of the victims to sign a release from the recording contract at gunpoint.”
Then, the rest of the men allegedly robbed Mane and the two other people who were with him at gunpoint, taking their Rolex watches, cash and other jewelry. The official list of suspects arrested on Thursday includes Sheisty, Big30 (Rodney Wright), Kedarius Waters, Damarian Gipson, Demarcus Glover, Kordae Johnson, and Darrion McDaniel. In a plot twist no one saw coming, Sheisty’s own father, Lontrell Williams, Sr., was also arrested. The ninth suspect, Terrance Rodgers, remains at large.
As to what helped authorities identify and locate all the alleged suspects, Raybould pointed to cell phone records, rental car records, “electronic monitoring data” from Sheisty that showed he was violating his home detention orders, surveillance footage and more as evidence.
The complaint also alleged that Sheisty’s father helped “plan and execute” this ordeal and that not too long after the robbery, some of the suspects allegedly posted photos of some of the items they stole on social media. Sheisty was released from prison in October 2025, where he served three years of a 63-month sentence on gun charges.
As the details of this new ordeal began to circulate online, many Black folks were taken aback by what they learned.
“Gucci what was in the contract,” one user questioned on X/Twitter.
Others questioned what kind of example Sheisty’s father set for his son.
“And ima say this and be done, wtf is the point of a father in the home if he’s only going to lead his son down a clear path of destruction. Because even on some street shit if you want your son who just got out the feds, out of that contract you go handle that, not put him and you in the position to go to prison,” said another.
One user tried to make light of the situation, writing: “pooh shiesty said ‘yeah we aint having a microsoft teams meeting.’”
Added another: “Man Pooh Shiesty from the Suge Knight school of business ain’t he? Lmao.”
However, some folks tried to see things from Sheisty’s point of view, but stopped short of defending his actions.
“Pooh Sheisty did what he was supposed to do. He did what some of you cowards say what YOU would do if you were in that situation. Don’t call him stupid now. Yall glorify that behavior until it’s REALLY happening. Everyone ain’t playing gangster,” said another person.
One other user noted, “Not saying Pooh was right but I’m saying I do understand. And it’s been past time to really talk about the exploitation of young impoverished Black kids, especially boys, in the music industry. The white man don’t even have to do it no more because so many of us willing to do his bidding.”
If Sheisty and the others are convicted, they all face up to life in prison, as NBC News reported.
