Federal officials have since claimed self-defense, but the mayor of Minneapolis described the killing as “reckless” and brutal. For Black communities, the proximity and echoes of brutality were immediate. Black America took to social media to express their utter disbelief. “ICE harms innocent people…wtf is the point again,” @ladidaix said on X.

All eyes are on Minneapolis after a woman– identified as Renee Nicole Good— was fatally shot by ICE officer. Immediately after the incident, ICE came out to declare the officer was acting in self defense. “One of these violent rioters weaponized her vehicle, attempting to run over our law enforcement officers in an attempt to kill them—an act of domestic terrorism,” a statement from the agency read.
Meanwhile, videos taken bystanders has the internet calling out the Trump administration for Good’s killing. “Scumbag fake a** cops…Stay strapped people,” @Abdul_Da_King wrote on X.
Mayor Jacob Frey denounced ICE with one clear message. “Get the f**k out of Minneapolis,” he said during a press conference. His words come as President Donald Trump continues to fixate on Minnesota and its Somali community. Trump called the migrants “garbage” and announced plans to send in even more ICE agents only days before Good was killed.
We previously told you an ongoing welfare fraud scandal paired with the president’s mass deportation agenda in Democratic cities has led to widespread conflict between ICE agents and residents. “We do not want you here,” Frey continued. “Your stated reason for being in this city is to create some kind of safety and you’re doing exactly the opposite.”
“They are not here to cause safety in this city. What they are doing is not to provide safety in America,” he added. “What they are doing is causing chaos and distrust.”
In the video of the Wednesday shooting, one ICE agent pulls out his gun after an altercation between officers and a group of peaceful protesters. Good was in the driver’s seat of her SUV when agents demanded she exit. The vehicle had been pulled in front of ICE cars, blocking their route. Good appeared to try to flee the officers who started grabbing the door handle and yelling.
The unidentified officer standing near the front of her car then fired multiple shots as Good crashed into multiple parked cars. She was pronounced dead, according to reports. Videos of the graphic scene have raked in millions of views, as many users express their disbelief over the shooting and other ICE-related incidents.
@TeeJay80 said, “Yeah they wasn’t in front of that car and wasn’t in any danger of getting ran over.” The shooting took place just blocks from where George Floyd was killed by Minneapolis police in 2020.
After the shooting, Minn. Gov. Tim Walz said the state’s National Guard is prepared to deploy if prompted. “We’ve never been at war with our federal government,” Walz said. He also urged residents to remain calm if they should protest Good’s death.
Another user declared the incident will be a turning point for the Democratic party. “Every Democrat should have already had ABOLISH ICE in your platform, but if you didn’t you better have it now,” @Respect2BG wrote.
The shooting comes one week after an off-duty ICE agent shot and killed a Black man named Keith Porter Jr. in California. Meanwhile, protesters continue to flood the neighborhood where Good was killed. She leaves behind one son.
