With some much needed time off on the horizon for a lot of us, we thought it’d be fun to round up more than a handful of projects that will truly give you the creeps, make you question what you thought you knew about some viral crimes, and cause you to do a deep dive into some back stories for more details.

“The Truth About Jussie Smollett”
Depending on who you ask, “The Truth About Jussie Smollett” documentary will have you either rethinking Smollett’s guilt or doubling down on his deceptive ways. We’ll let you be the judge after you watch it.

One of Netflix’s latest documentary offerings center around music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs and is produced by his longtime nemesis Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson. But the petty-ness seems to have been put aside given how mostly thorough this four-part project was.
“The Untold Murder of Air McNair”
Steve “Air” McNair may be an NFL legend thanks to his amazing skills on the field, but his personal life unfortunately gave him a level notoriety thanks to the disturbing and shocking way he was killed in 2009. And this documentary peels back the layers one by one.
“Murder in Monaco”
When a billionaire, namely Edmond Safra, winds up dead in the safest country in the world–there are countless questions to be asked. But when you add in potential Russian involvement, a wife vying for socialite status, and employee with a “hero complex”–things get much murkier than you would believe.
“The Perfect Neighbor”
We already told you about this one earlier in the year, but if our descriptor wasn’t enough to dissuade you from watching– don’t say we didn’t warn you when you start giving your next door neighbors the side eye. The way this documentary recounts the events leading up to the unjust murder of Ajike Owens is something that will stick with you long after you turn your television off.
“Who Killed Jam Master Jay”
One of hip-hops most talented DJs whose star got snuffed out far too soon was no doubt Jam Master Jay. But his death remained unsolved for years up until two men were finally indicted for his murder in 2020. Yet and still, the unfolding of Jay’s 2002 death still remains one filled with more questions than answers as this documentary makes clear.
“Trainwreck: The Astroworld Tragedy”
Travis Scott may be a multi-Grammy-nominated rapper, but one thing he’ll forever be linked to is the horrific AstroWorld tragedy that struck in November 2021 and claimed the lives of 10 people. This documentary does a good job at laying out exactly when and how things went so wrong.
“Murdaugh Murders: A Southern Scandal”
The murder story of the Murdaugh Family has been told and retold and dramatized in numerous documentaries and series at this point since the news first broke in 2021. But no matter how many times you watch something, there’s still another eerie fact to learn about the lengths this family went to deceive, kill and lie as this documentary makes clear.
“Con Mum”
In a documentary that could only be described as “I know you lyin’,” a Black Michelin star chef finally connects with his long lost mother, whom he’d never known. However, if you thought this story was gonna give you the warm and fuzzy feelings–think again because this plot twist is truly insane.
“Titan: The Oceangate Submersible Disaster”
When OceanGate’s Titan underwater vessel imploded and all those people lost their lives in 2023 in an attempt to see the remains of the Titanic, we knew it would only be a matter of time before a gripping documentary exposing what really went down would come out. And now, we’ve got exactly that thanks to “Titan: The OceaGate Submersible Disater.”
“Aileen: Queen of the Serial Killers”
Though it’s pretty usual for serial killers to be white, it’s pretty rare for a white woman to take up that mantle and enact violence, too. But that’s allegedly what happened in the case of Aileen Wuornos, dubbed the “hooker from Hell.” Trust us, you’ll be intrigued by this one!
“The Menendez Brothers”
While the Menendez Brothers may not be Black, their story revolving the murder of their parents had folks of all races and nationalities hooked. And they still do thanks to that popular Netflix series and this subsequently released documentary, “The Menendez Brothers.” Just when you think you know, this doc makes you rethink things all over again.
“Who Killed Malcolm X?”
The mysterious death of one of America’s most iconic civil rights leaders–Malcolm X–is one of those stories that make you think twice about who you call your brother and the amount of trust you put into those closest to you. The fact that we still don’t have a real picture as to who was really responsible for his death all these years later is just mind-boggling.
