Every generation, parents complain to their kids that their favorite music is way more explicit than what they grew up listening to. While we’re not here to debate that point, we will say that Black folks have been singing and rapping about freaky stuff for decades. We guarantee that, whether you grew up listening to Marvin Gaye, Prince, or Snoop Dogg, you were probably exposed to lyrics you shouldn’t have been.

“Don’t Be Afraid” by Aaron Hall
You may have been dancing to Aaron Hall’s “Don’t Be Afraid” in 1991, but have you ever really listened to the lyrics? The words to this song, which was featured on the “Juice” soundtrack are pretty creepy.
“Now I have you all to myself;
You can put all the other guys all on the shelf;
No need to run and no need to hide;
All the doors are locked baby and I have you inside;
You can yell and you can hit me;
It just makes me horny;
Ain’t nothing but a love thing baby;
Between me and you;
So just give in baby, don’t worry about a thing.”
“My Neck, My Back” by Khia
Khia’s “My Neck. My Back” is so dirty they had to make a version for the radio. And believe it or not, even the clean version will make you clutch your pearls. Just check out a few of the lyrics we could print here:
“Just do it, do it, do it do it;
do it now, do it good;
lick this ahhh just like you should.
Right now, lick it good;
lick this ahhh just like you should.”
But in a hilarious twist, an even cleaner version of the song is featured in a commercial for Dove Whole Body Deo.
“Ain’t No Fun” by Snoop Dogg
Your grandma may think Snoop Dogg is just a fun-loving rapper who hangs out at the Olympics and coaches aspiring artists on “The Voice,” but there’s a whole other side to the Cali-born rapper that may shock her. Take the 1993 song “Ain’t No Fun,” which Snoop dropped along with a little help from Warren G, Nate Dogg and Kurupt. There are very few lyrics we can post, but here’s a sample:
“Leave your number on the cabinet;
And I promise baby, I’ll give you a call.
Next time I’m feeling kinda horny;
You can come on over; And I’ll break you off.
And if you can’t f*k that day baby;
Just lay back and open your mouth.”
“Doin’ It” by LL Cool J
A few years after “Mama Said Knock You Out,” Queens-born rapper LL Cool J showed fans he’s just as much a lover as he is a fighter, with the sexy single, “Doin’ It” from his 1995 “Mr. Smith” album. In the song, LL and featured artist LeShaun describe a freaky sexcapade in pretty explicit detail.
Check out these lyrics:
“It’s our first time together and I’m feeling kinda horny;
Conventional methods of makin’ love kinda bore me.
I wanna knock your block off, get my rocks off;
Blow your socks off make sure your G spots soft.”
And that’s just the first verse!
“Erotic City” by Prince
Ok, so a list like this could probably just include songs by Prince, but we’re going to give him a pass and just include his hit “Erotic City,” which was initially released as a B-side to “Let’s Go Crazy.” Although the song still gets people on the dance floor, you can’t deny that it’s freaky AF.
Check out the lyrics:
If we cannot make babies
Maybe we can make some time
Fuck so pretty, you and me
Erotic City, come alive
“Your Mama’s On Crack Rock” by The Dogs
The title “Your Mama’s on Crack Rock” is controversial enough, but the lyrics are even more disturbing.
“Yo, here’s a story ’bout a b*h who was trickin’ on the ave;
It might be your mama (Heh heh), but don’t you laugh.”
“Age Ain’t Nothing But a Number” by Aaliyah
When it comes to Aaliyah’s “Age Ain’t Nothing But a Number,” there are so many disturbing details to unpack, starting with the fact that it was produced by R. Kelly (we’ll just leave that there). Aaliyah was just 15 years old when she recorded this song with lyrics about not letting her age stop her from “throwing down.”
“Age ain’t nothing but a number;
Throwing down ain’t nothing but a thing;
This something I have for you it’ll never change.”
“Freak Me” by Silk
If you were a kid when Silk’s 1990s slow jam “Freak Me” came out, your parents probably would not have wanted you to walk around singing it.
Just check out the lyrics:
“Let me lick you up and down;
‘Til you say stop.
Let me play with your body, baby;
Make you real hot.
Let me do all the things you want me to do);
‘Cause tonight baby, I wanna get freaky with you.”
“17” by Rick James
Rick James made a reputation of being a ladies man who never met a party he didn’t like. But we can’t help but give him the side eye for his track “17,” in which he sings about taking a teenage girl to his hotel room.”
Here is just a sample of the cringeworthy lyrics:
“A little girl came up to me, acting young and shy;
A look of curiosity was flashing in her eyes.
She had seen my face before and thought she knew me well.
So I said “Shall we talk some more, you’ll come to my hotel”
She was only 17, 17; But she was sexy.”
“Magic Stick” by Lil’ Kim
When it comes to lyrics, Lil’ Kim has never been shy. So when she and 50 Cent teamed up on the 2003 banger “Magic Stick,” the rappers dropped equally raunchy verses.
“This junk in my trunk ain’t made for chumps.
When Lil’ Kim’s around you don’t need the lye;
It’s the “Drugs”, baby, I’m makin ya high!”
“Put it In Your Mouth” by Akinyele
You can probably guess from the title what Akinyele’s late 90s song “Put it in Your Mouth” is all about. Although 99.9 percent of the song’s lyrics are unfit for print, here’s a sample of the suggestive song:
“You wanna go down, why not?
I be like Herbie and Hand-you-a-Cock.
And tell you that my name is Ak’;
Get on your knees, make like the breeze begin to blow.”
“Wait (The Whisper Song)” by Ying Yang Twins
We don’t know if the Ying Yang Twins thought rapping in a whisper would take the attention away from their freaky AF track “Wait,” but we heard every nasty lyric. While we have to admit the beat is insane, the lyrics are not for the faint of heart.
“Hey, how you doing lil’ mama? Let me whisper in ya ear;
Tell ya something that ya might like to hear.
Got a sexy a* body and ya a* look soft;
Mind if I touch it to see if it’s soft?
Nah, I’m just playing less you say I can;
And I’m known to be a real nasty man.”
“Freaky Tales” by Too Short
Too $hort is known for songs that aren’t exactly appropriate for the radio, and “Freaky Tales” is no exception. The song, which has the cadence of a nursery rhyme, is all about $hort’s adventures with various ladies, “the freaky tales that he tells so well.”
“I met another girl, her name was Ann;
All she wanted was to freak with a man.
When I met Ann, I shook her hand;
We ended up freakin’ by a garbage can.”
