Backward Nails? Social Media is On Fire Over the New Fashion Trend That Megan Thee Stallion Rocked During Paris Fashion Week

After Megan Thee Stallion was spotted wearing the trend at Paris Fashion Week we found people on both sides of the argument to turn their tips around.

Megan Thee Stallion stopped everyone in their tracks this week wearing a nude corset with metallic accessories at the Gaurav Gupta Haute Couture Spring-Summer 2025 show during Paris Fashion Week. Although her body was definitely bodying in the sexy look, it was her manicure that nearly stole the show as people couldn’t help but zoom in on her backward manicure.

β€œTHE NAILSSS ! Cultural RESET,” wrote someone in the comments on Megan’s Instagram post.

Megan’s new nails had plenty of people talking, but she’s far from the only one rocking the trend. A quick search for β€œbackward nails” on TikTok will pull up plenty of clips of people turning around their tips and painting them with the most creative colors and designs.

TikToker @xilinailart showed off a backward metallic mani in a post captioned, β€œSay goodbye to tradition, embrace rebellion! Reverse nails are all about being different. Who says nails have to follow the rules? I’m here to break them and start a new trend!”

Most of the commenters were here for the look, even if it took them a minute to get on board.

β€œI was fully prepared to hate these but like…they’re actually kinda πŸ”₯ in a weird alien way πŸ‘½πŸ’š,” someone commented.

But not everyone is ready to embrace the trend. TikTok user @momma1323 argues in a post that nails like these are beautiful but aren’t practical – especially when it comes to hygiene.

β€œWhat is the argument for these? Because I feel like they’re going to get dirty. Water is gonna get stuck in there. You’re going to have to constantly bend your finger weird to clean out from under them,” she said in her post. β€œThe only other trend I’ve seen that is worse than this is the duck nails.”

Her commenters were quick to cosign.

β€œAs a licensed nail tech, I would not do this to a client!” wrote one commenter.

Even actress and television personality Keke Palmer weighed in on the trend. In a recent interview with Allure, she seemed genuinely creeped out by the idea of backward nails, arguing that a manicure like this belongs in a sci-fi series.

β€œUh uh. This is horrifying. I’ve never seen anything scarier in my life,” she said. β€œNails can be any way but upside down. Upside down nails, they belong in β€˜Stranger Things.’”

We’ll be watching to see if these trend is here to stay or if it breaks – literally.
