Anderson Cooper fought back tears during Monday night’s Anderson Cooper 360º on CNN as he stood a block away from Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Fla.

Cooper was in Orlando to remember the victims of the nightclub shooting, but he made it a point to let people know that he wouldn’t mention the gunman’s name.

“In the next two hours, we want to try to keep the focus where we think it belongs: on the people whose lives were cut short,” Cooper explained.

Cooper than tearfully read each of the victims’ names and shared information about their lives.

“They are more than a list of names,” Cooper said. “They are people who loved and who were loved.”
