All About Marsai Martin’s Jaw-Dropping Net Worth and the Financial Empire She Built Before Age 21

After landing a role in “Black-ish,” Marsai Martin has been building her own financial empire that’s opening doors and setting records.

Don’t let her age fool you! Actress and producer Marsai Martin might be 21 years old, but she’s already stamped her name in the Hollywood history books. And with more than enough accolades to go along with her reputation, you can bet she has the net worth to back it all up.

At five years old, Martin began her acting career, but it wasn’t until 2014 that she would land her breakout role in the ABC comedy “Black-ish.” Since then, the Texas native has been on a mission to become the next big film producer, writer and director… and let’s just say, she’s doing the damn thing! But what sets her apart from her peers is her attention to detail, especially when it comes down to her money.

“I didn’t know what a dollar meant truly until I saw what the real world was,” Martin told Chime in an interview with her mother. But that’s when her parents stepped in. Similar to other child stars, the Martins set up a Coogan savings account for the young actress in order to start her career off on the right foot. According to the City National Bank, a Coogan Account is a special savings account created by a legal parent or guardian for a minor.

With all the success Martin saw early in her career, you’d think she’d tap into the Coogan Account from time to time, but her mother told Chime that money hasn’t been touched, and they have no plans to do so. And honestly, who needs to when your daughter made history in 2020 as the youngest executive producer, landing Martin a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records?

Variety reported the actress pitched her film “Little” at nine years old to Universal Pictures, and it grossed $48 million at the box office. That project birthed the idea of her own production company, Genius Productions, which was co-founded with her parents.

“It was important for me to start Genius because of the experience I went through with ‘Little,’” Martin said. “My dream is to shine the light on all the other people coming behind me and also in front of me.” She’s done just that with several partnerships and mentorships over the years.

This past June, Martin partnered with Seeds of Fortune Inc. to provide wealth-building programs, mentorship opportunities and exclusive events to 10,000 young women, according to a press release. She’s also collaborated with Disney, Universal and the Girls Inc. Film Festival to not only expand her growing Hollywood empire but also to shine a light on lesser told stories of young Black women around the world.

All of Martin’s achievements resulted in her net worth being between $1.5 million and $5 million, according to CAknowledge and other reports. There’s still a lot more to accomplish for the 21-year-old, and she told Marie Claire— a French fashion magazine— she understands the responsibility she has to her family and to her community.

“People see me in this light, yet I feel like I have so many more steps to go to get to the point of where I want to be,” she said in the interview. “I’m just now at the age where I really understand the spaces I’m in, what it takes to get there and the different walls I have to break down to let my voice and presence be seen and heard.”
