After a Lengthy Prison Sentence, New York City Rapper Max B Is Having the Best Week Ever

Max B was sentenced to 75 years in prison connected to a 2007 murder and robbery. Now, he’s a free man.

No one on the planet is having a better week than New York City rapper Max B. After serving 16 years in prison, Max B returned home to a whirlwind of celebrations that began the moment he walked out of the prison gates. Within hours, the Wave God was back outside, making his presence known throughout the city.

He was greeted outside the prison gates on Nov. 9 by close friends and family, including his longtime collaborator French Montana. Fittingly, Max B’s release date also happened to be Montana’s 41st birthday.

“CANT MAKE THIS UP !! MY BROTHER REALLY CAME HOME ON MY B DAY! HAMDULILLAH ,” the rapper wrote on Instagram. “WALKED IT DOWN !! NO MORE FREE YOU.”

While incarcerated, the Wave God was already recording and releasing music. Now, he’ll have the opportunity to perform his new songs on stage. Back in October, the rapper announced a tour that was set to start on Nov. 9 and end on Dec. 13.

“Fresh out the can,” he said in an interview with The People Gallery. “They gave me seven and five, but I’m back. … I’m feeling righteous. Feeling good. I’m grateful. I’m thankful. God is good.”

The Wave God spent much of his first 24 hours as a free man going shopping. He hit up a Louis Vuitton store then headed to Metlife Stadium in time for the Jets vs. Browns NFL game. The Jets’ win against the Cleveland, Ohio team marked only their second victory this season. Fans online like @RdotChung joked how “it Max B to be freed for the Jets to win a game.”

Next on his first day out list, Max B paid a visit to Avianne and Co. There, the rapper cashed out on about $500,000 worth of jewelry. Avianne’s legacy in hip-hop dates back to before the Harlem native went to prison. Max B and other members of Dipset were all rocking Avianne chains during their prime. In addition to getting new pieces for himself, it seems Max B also had plans to announce a different piece of jewelry for someone close to his heart.

The rapper proposed to his longtime partner during a private dinner the next day (Nov. 10), and she said yes! The couple had gotten married while he was behind bars, according to reports. But now that he’s a free man, it seems Max B wanted to give her an authentic proposal. In the video, she takes off a ring already on her left hand and replaces it with the new engagement ring.

Of course, the rapper’s release set off a chain of celebrations and parties across the city, all in honor of Max B. He’s even made several club appearances and done interviews since Nov. 9. But on Thursday (Nov. 13), Max B slowed down to remember one of his fallen friends.

On what would’ve been rapper A$AP Yams’ 37th birthday, Max B visited his grave site with the fellow Harlem rapper’s mother. Yams died in 2015 from a drug overdose. Before A$AP Mob became the global sensation they are today, A$AP Yams always maintained Max B as his musical and style influence. Even while he was behind bars, Yams kept Max B’s music and legacy alive until his own untimely death.

Max B was sentenced to 75 years in prison connected to a 2007 murder and robbery. His sentence was reduced to 20 years after he pled guilty to aggravated manslaughter.
