What did he do? The 21-year-old now-former employee at Alexander’s Mortuary posed for pictures next to caskets, including one in which he’s holding a gun.
According to KPRC 2 Houston, the owners of the funeral home collected their employees’ phones to investigate the source of the disturbing pics, when the man confirmed he was posting the pictures to social media to gain popularity online. They added that the offender’s actions led to his termination and do not reflect the values of their business.
“The young man made a mistake trying to go viral. Trying to monetize and get money off of social media,” Derek Anderson, an employee at Alexander’s Mortuary, told the outlet. “We’re going to give him a little grace, but he has to suffer the consequences, termination.”
Alexander’s Mortuary is also planning to file a police report against another person who posted some disturbing video taken inside the funeral home online. The graphic video, taken by someone the deceased person’s family chose to cut their loved one’s hair before the funeral service, shows the body of a nude woman who was being prepared for cremation.
The funeral home’s owner told KPRC that he is hurt that someone he’d worked with before would tarnish the reputation he’s worked so hard to build in the community.
“The young lady violated our trust. We know her. She’s been here before to do work,” he said. “I am deeply hurt and saddened because I’ve been serving this community for over 40 years. I’ve never had any type of blemish of this sort at this funeral home.”
