Ma de La Luz Mejia Rosas was visiting Universal Orlando with members of her family back in November 2025, according to a statement from Crump. At some point during their visit, the 70-year-old went on the Revenge of the Mummy rollercoaster. But when she got off the ride, she became unresponsive.

Rosas was rushed to the hospital; two weeks later, she was pronounced dead on Dec. 9. The medical examiner declared she suffered a ruptured aneurysm without trauma.

“Mrs. Rosas went to the park to enjoy time with her children and grandchildren, expecting a safe and joyful experience. Instead, her family is now left grieving and searching for answers,” Crump said. “They deserve a full understanding of what happened before, during, and after this ride.”

The ride itself is described as one of its most extreme rollercoasters, according to the theme park website. The Revenge of the Mummy has a 39-foot drop, backward motions and sudden braking. According to reports, there have been more than 16 incidents connected to the Revenge of the Mummy ride since 2004, when it premiered.

During the very first year the ride was open, a 39-year-old man fell onto the loading platform of the rollercoaster. He was taken to the hospital for a head injury and died the next day, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

Rosas’ family is now “seeking answers and full transparency regarding the circumstances surrounding her death,” according to Crump’s office. He’s reportedly requesting information concerning the ride’s operations, safety protocols, maintenance history and data on past incidents. “We intend to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding this tragedy and ensure her family’s voice is heard,” he said.

Crump, who is known for taking on high profile civil rights cases, also handled the case of Kevin Rodriguez Zavala— a man who died while riding the Stardust Racers rollercoaster at a different Universal theme park in Florida. According to reports, Crump reached a settlement with the theme park, although details haven’t been released to the public.
