Beyoncé

Photo: Mason Pool and Julian Dakdouk

It seems like every other week, Beyoncé finds yet another reason to get us to spend our money. Her latest offering this time around…? Her first ever line of whiskey: Sir Davis.

Named after her paternal great-grandfather — whom she learned used to make moonshine during the Prohibition Era and hid whiskey bottles in cedar trees in the South for family and friends — this new venture is an ode to her legacy and a nod to her future. (It’s also something that she’s been hinting in her lyrics in her most recent album, “Cowboy Carter.”)

“For Knowles-Carter, it was this discovery that made the idea of creating a whisky brand feel predestined. Four generations later, the legacy comes to life — rather than hidden in the trees, bottles of Sir Davis proudly grace the top shelves of fine purveyors of spirits around the world,” according to a statement for the brand read.

Uncle Nearest

Photo: Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey

Perhaps one of the most popular and notable Black women-owned whiskey brands, Uncle Nearest has slowly but surely taken over in stores and in homes once the discovery that its namesake was responsible for teaching Jack Daniel (yes, that Jack Daniel) how to make whiskey back in the mid-1800s.

And despite Nearest Green, the enslaved man who had the secret sauce, not getting his just dues back then, his story is now making a splash and raking in profit for his lineage thanks to his great-great-granddaughter Victoria Eady Butler.

Stella Rosa Brandy – Brandy Norwood

Brandy having her own line of brandy may feel like a no-brainer collaboration, but it wasn’t until 2022 that the beloved R&B singer partnered up with popular wine company Stella Rosa to launch its first ever Stella Rosa Premium Imported Brandy. Now available in four different flavors (Author’s note: my personal favorite is the Smooth Black, berry iteration), the strong yet smooth offering is sure to please any brown liquor lover.

Issa Rae’s reign as the queen of all things cool has now found its way into the alcohol sector. Thanks to her latest venture, Viarae Prosecco and now Viarae Prosecco Rose—you can root for everybody Black and pop bottles with the homies at the same damn time. When Ciara said she’d hit us with a “dose” back in 2018, I wish she’d been referring to her Ten To One Caribbean rum. Created in collaboration with its CEO Marc Farrell, the award-winning rums seek to elevate and compliment Caribbean culture and honor its rich heritage.

“From my first sip of Ten To One, I was immediately transported,” said Ciara back when she initially got onboard in 2021.

Photo: Theprionserwinecompany.com

After a somewhat unsuccessful initial launch in 2018, sisters-in-law Ayesha Curry and Sydel Curry-Lee bounced back and found their groove with their Domaine Curry Wine. Currently available in three variations (a Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, and their special Founders Red Blend) — the brand is a celebration of the strong women who have shaped the Curry family’s heritage and an embodiment of the ideals of sisterhood, virtue, and strength.

“It was pretty daunting going in. But we quickly realized we’re smart, we’re strong, we’ve got it, we know what we like, we know what tastes great, we know what works. And I think when you push through that and drown out the noise, the rest is history,” Ayesha said in an interview last year.

She added: “One thing is for sure, we know what we like to drink, but we’re still learning. We go through these blending sessions and they are so informative because we walk out with a new lust for the wine industry, and we know we’re meant to be there. However, we’ve dedicated to constantly educating ourselves.”

Black Irish Cream Liqueur- Mariah Carey

Photo: Black Irish Liqueur

Launched in 2021, Mariah Carey’s Black Irish Liqueur has been giving Bailey’s cream liqueur a run for their money with decadent flavors such as Salted Caramel and White Chocolate. Hand-crafted in Ireland, the name for the brand was also nod to her Black and Irish heritage.

“I wanted to create something that embodies the holidays and gives everyone a reason to celebrate year-round, and I really think we have done that with Black Irish,” Carey told Food & Wine at the time.

Created in tandem with fellow actresses and friends Vanessa Hudgens and Ashley Benson back in 2022, Rosario Dawson created a “very cutesy” line of ready-to-drink cocktails, Margalicious Margarita. With “bright agave” and “crisp citrus forward notes,” Dawson revealed that the portable drink’s fun name was a derivative of her own daughter.

“My offering was the Margalicious name, which was an homage to my daughter Isabella, whose middle name is Margalita. It’s a fun name for a fun product,” she told PEOPLE at the time.
