Rapper 50 Cent has partnered with Pure Growth Partners to launch Street King, an energy drink that will be sold to combat world hunger. He says in a video promoting the venture that profits from the beverage, which goes on sales this week, will be used to feed impoverished children.
He aims to provide up to a billion meals to within the next five years and to spread awareness about the hunger epidemic.
"I grew up without money, but I didn't grow up hungry," says the rapper. He explains that a summer trip to Africa made him aware of the many children who don't know where their next meal will come from.
"With the rampant starvation in Africa and hunger afflicting children worldwide, we need socially responsible businesses that affect real change now more than ever," Chris Clark, founder and CEO of Pure Growth Partner, says.
Street King will go on sale this week starting with orange-mango and grape flavors priced at $2.49 to $2.99.
While commenters around the Internet are already skeptical about everything from the ingredients in the beverage to how much of the profits will go to administrative costs, we have a hard time finding much fault with this all-too-rare morally responsible use of a rapper's money and influence.
