The name of this supremely stupid act: “dinging.” As in, they wanted to hear the rocks (one of which was 20 pounds) ding on the cars. Except a man lost his life.

The teens, identified as Alexander Miller, Mikadyn Payne, Trevor Gray, Mark Sekelsky and Kyle Anger, range in age from 15 to 17.

The New York Daily News reports that in addition to the murder charges, they will be tried as adults with the added indictments of malicious destruction of property and conspiracy.

Kenneth White was killed as he rode in the passenger seat on his way home from work. The Genesee County medical examiner confirmed that his cause of death was blunt-force trauma; he suffered a broken skull, brain damage and a cut on his chest.

The teens reportedly talked about what they were going to do beforehand and visited a McDonald’s afterward.

They face life in prison if convicted.
