For over 110 years, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. has been more than just an organization; it has been a movement. On January 13, 1913, at Howard University, 22 courageous women founded the organization on the principles of sisterhood and service. From college campuses across the country to trailblazing women shaking things up in the White House, this sisterhood is filled with leaders and storytellers who have made it their mission to reshape society. We thought it was only right to recognize a few of our favorite celebrity members who boldly represent crimson and cream.

Queen Latifah

The legendary Queen Latifah was inducted as an Honorary Member of the illustrious organization in 2025 during the sorority’s 57th National Convention in Washington, D.C. Her induction celebrated a trailblazing career as a Grammy and Emmy-winning, Oscar-nominated rapper, actress, and producer who has consistently broken barriers for women in entertainment. As a cultural icon who redefined the representation of Black women on screen and in music, she truly embodies the sorority’s core values. Now, the spirit of U.N.I.T.Y. officially runs through her veins.

Legendary Nikki Giovanni is a fitting testament to her lifelong commitment to Black arts and storytelling. She was initiated as an honorary member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority in 1973 at the organization’s national convention in Atlanta. During the convention, she was recognized for her influence as a poet, activist, and cultural voice, for her work embodied the sorority’s commitment to social justice and public service.

Sheryl Lee Ralph

Sheryl Lee Ralph is Hollywood’s blueprint for fame and success, but as an honorary member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., she is celebrated as a trailblazer for her work off-screen. The “Abbott Elementary” actress has a long history of activism, including HIV/AIDS awareness, LGBTQ+ advocacy, and voter engagement campaigns. She embodies the very definition of a Delta woman.

Mara Brock Akil

As the creator of “Girlfriends,” “Being Mary Jane,” and “Love Is…,” she has reshaped the representation of Black women on television. A proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., she was initiated into the Theta Alpha Chapter at Northwestern University, where her leadership and commitment to storytelling first grew. As a legacy member, crimson and cream truly run through her veins—a beautiful reflection of her lifelong dedication to both her sisterhood and the power of the Black narrative in media.
