Cleveland Police Launch Manhunt for Suspect Who Broadcast Killing Live on Facebook: Reports

Updated Sunday, April 16, 2017, 7:43 p.m. EDT: Cleveland police have identified the victim in the Facebook Live video as 74-year-old Robert Goodwin Sr., according to ABC News. In the video, which has been removed from Facebook, Goodwin can be seen raising his arms to protect himself as a suspect, whom police have identified as Steve Stephens, is seen raising a gun to shoot Goodwin. The killing, which police say was a random incident, took place at 2 p.m. local time.


At a press conference, Cleveland authorities called on Stephens to turn himself in.

“We want to communicate to him that we know who he is, and that he will eventually be caught,” said Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson. “We’re saying to him that he need not do any more harm to anybody.”


Cleveland Police Chief Calvin Williams said that Stephens has not been seen since the shooting.


Cleveland police are looking for a suspect who they say broadcast the homicide of an elderly man on Facebook Live in northeast Cleveland, authorities told CNN on Sunday.

The suspect, identified as Steve Stephens, claims to have committed multiple killings, but no other victims have been found, according to Cleveland Police Department spokeswoman Sgt. Jennifer Ciaccia.

NBC News reports that Stephens made a series of Facebook posts Sunday claiming he’d lost everything gambling and naming specific people he wanted to speak to. Stephens is considered armed and dangerous.


Authorities are searching for Stephens near Cleveland State University and say that he was last seen wearing a dark-blue and gray or black striped polo shirt. He 6 foot 1 inches and 244 pounds. He was also driving a white Ford Fusion.

Students at Cleveland State University were told to stay away from campus and shelter in place.
