13 Shocking, Tragic and, Well, Hilarious Road Rage Incidents Involving Black Folks

From a 9-year-old being shot to a Black woman assaulting a man with a broom, these recent road rage incidents are not only shocking… they’re unforgettable.

Everyone is bound to encounter an erratic driver at some point. These road ragers are often harmless, sometimes simply honking aggressively or gesturing. But recently, given the current state of the world, it seems to be a lot more problematic cases of road rage that have reached national attention.

Pregnant Teen Dies in La.

Katelynn Strate was 28 weeks pregnant when she and her boyfriend were driving to his parents’ house around 9 a.m. on Sunday (Aug. 24). But while on the road, they encountered a silver Dodge truck and things took a turn. According to police, the two drivers began “tailgating and brake-checking each other” until the Dodge driver, 54-year-old Barry West, shot his gun into the other vehicle. Strate, who was sitting in the passenger seat of the car, was shot in the head. She was rushed to the hospital where doctors delivered her baby girl. She was later taken off of life support. West is now charged with second degree murder.

Woman Chases Biker After Hitting Him

A man named “Zack” was riding his e-bike in Baltimore when a car hit him. “The woman clipped me on my bike and broke my pedal off and so I flipped her off,” he said, according to WMAR. “You know. I was unhappy that she hit me and she decided to take it upon herself to chase me down the whole bike path down Waterview.” That’s when he said they got into a verbal argument, and the woman hopped out of her car and began hitting him with a broom, we reported. The biker rider was able to capture put of the physical interaction on camera, but the woman fled the scene before police could arrive. Now, police are on the search to find her.

Road Rager Gets His Karma

Viral video showed a one white SUV cut off another vehicle while driving on the highway. As the other car goes to pass the white SUV, they were greeted by a man in the passenger seat, who rolls his window down. The man then goes to throw what looks like a tumbler full of coffee on the other driver, but because of the wind and the speed of both cars, he’s the one that actually gets a face full of the coffee instead.

Massachusetts Police Officer Gets in Trouble

In 2022, police officer Joel Salituri began following another man from the interstate all the way to a parking lot, according to NBC Boston. Eventually, Salituri pulled up next to the other vehicle and began yelling racial slurs at him, even flashing his gun. He was off duty at the time and was later charged with assault with a dangerous weapon.

White Driver Follows Black Man Home

Video captured the moment a white man named Jeffrey Whitman pulls up to a Black man’s house following a road rage incident in Ohio. “You’re a rude n****r… You cut me off in my lane,” Whitman said to the Black man named Charles Lovett. “You cut me off because you feel entitled because you get everything for free.” Whitman eventually apologized after he was identified by the Press and police, we reported.

Racist Road Rager Caught on Camera

A man was driving in Dekalb County, Ga. when he became the victim of a racist attack, we reported. Two white men allegedly flicked him off and started screaming at the victim after they blocked him while he tried to get off an exit. Eventually one of the two men got out of the car, and that’s when Avery said he started recording. “When he said the N-word with the ‘er’ on it, that kind of blew me,” the victim told WSB-TV. Police are still looking for the two men.

HBCU Student Wrongfully Accused

Thirty-two-year-old Lavadious McNair was mistakenly charged in connection to a violent road rage accident. The problem, however, was he was on his way to class when it originally went down. As we previously reported, the victim claimed McNair pistol-whipped him, shot him in the knee and fled the scene in Atlanta. He was charged with aggravated assault, aggravated battery and possession of a firearm during commission of a felony. After a week, the charges against him were dropped. A county judge called the case “egregious” and slammed prosecutors for allegedly holding onto evidence proving McNair’s innocence, a report said.

Male Karen Attacks Grandma

A Black woman named Neco Eley was on her way to a doctor’s appointment with her 6-year-old son in Mississippi, we previously reported. That’s when a white man driving a silver Mercedes-Benz started driving erratically. Eley pulled out her phone to start recording, and the other driver began a racist tirade. He told her to go “back to Africa” and that he “should take [her] out that car and beat [her] with a tire iron.” Investigators are still looking to file charges against the man involved.

Deadly Road Rage in Massachusetts

Dean Kapsalis, 56, got into an argument with Henry Tapia, 34, over turn signals, according to Boston.com. Police said Kapsalis then hit Tapia with his pickup truck and fled the scene. The 34-year-old eventually was rushed to the hospital but died from his injures. Kapsalis was arrested and charged with second-degree murder, a violation of constitutional rights causing serious bodily injury, assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury and leaving the scene after causing injury, we reported. He was found guilty and sentenced to life.

White Nazi Punches Black Man in the Face

Jordan Patrick Leahy was sentenced for a racially motivated hate crime back in 2022. As we previously reported, Leahy sideswiped a car driven by a Black man, and as he passed, the 28-year-old threw up a Nazi salute. Leahy then got out of his car, approached the Black man and punched him in the face. He was later arrested and charged with a hate crime. He was sentenced to 24 months in prison.

Vegas Road Rage

A man was big and bold during a heated exchange in Las Vegas… until the other driver began recording. “He’s a b***h. He’s scared to get out of the car,” the aggressor can be heard yelling to the other driver. Eventually, the man slaps the phone out of the driver’s hand through the window. This prompted the man to get out of his car. When he did, however, the Black man sped off.

9-Year-Old Shot

A family in Houston was devastated after a road rage incident left a nine-year-old girl in critical condition, we reported. According to Houston police, Ashanti Grant’s family was cut off on the road several times by a white GMC Denali pickup truck. During the interaction, someone from inside the SUV pulled a gun and shot into the Grant family car, hitting her. She was rushed to the hospital, but is expected to make a full recovery. Police have not found the shooter.

Oklahoma Man Charged

Oklahoma City Police responded to calls that a white man was assaulting a Black man. According to KOKH, a motorcyclist, who actually turned out to be his neighbor, was caught spewing racial slurs at him stemming from an on the road altercation. The white man was charged with malicious harassment and threatening to perform an act of violence.
