The police commissioner promised a 12-year-old Dorchester girl hit in the leg from a stray bullet from an AK-47 last night that he’ll track down the thug responsible.

“She’s not in any pain right now, but she’s clearly afraid,” said Boston Police Commissioner Edward Davis after his visit to the girl’s house this afternoon.

Davis came to the girl’s home at around 2 p.m. after she had been sent home from the hospital. The commissioner said after his visit that police are working on the wild shootout now and already have leads.

He said police have confiscated a car and they have “good cooperation” along with “good evidence.” Davis said the girl was on her bed watching TV when the gunfire erupted outside her window on Whitman Street last night.

The bullets, possibly from one of three weapons, came though the siding of the house. A bullet from an AK-47 was the one that hit the girl in the leg, Davis said.
