"Whites Only" and "Colored" signs reportedly placed above two water fountains at a Florida high school have sparked an investigation by school officials, Action News Jax reports. A photo of the signs was shared on social media Thursday.

According to the news station, Duval County School Superintendent Nikolai Vitti said in a statement that the signs put over the fountains at First Coast High School in Jacksonville were unacceptable and intolerable.

"We are investigating the matter to determine who is behind the action to provide the appropriate discipline and counseling," Vitti said.

"School is investigating, but it appears to be a prank. Staff immediately removed the notes once it was brought to their attention," DCPS spokesperson Lauren Ricks told Action News Jax in a statement.
