Tony West

Age44 years old years old

Hometown San Jose, CA

Claim to Fame Assistant Attorney General, Civil Division.

Bio When Tony West was 37, he joined the defense team for accused terrorist John Walker Lindh (the so-called American Taliban), leading many to believe he had ruined his own career. Unfazed, West wrote in a 2002 editorial to the San Francisco Daily Journal that he considered his work on Lindh’s case was”a recommitment to justice.” Seven years later, it’s obvious that his choice to defend Lindh has not limited him. In April he was confirmed as President Barack Obama’s assistant Attorney General for the Justice Department’s Civil Division. Prior to this, he was candidate Obama’s leading fundraiser in California, helping earn $65 million for the future president.
