But the New Jersey native has been working both behind and in front of the camera for decades. Music fans may remember Stewart as a correspondent for MTV news, where she won a Peabody Award for her coverage of Bill Clinton’s 1992 presidential campaign. Her long career in broadcast media has included stints at NPR, CBS and ABC. Stewart is now penning a book on the history of African American education.
