Kamala Harris

Hometown Oakland, CA

Claim to Fame San Francisco District Attorney

Bio Kamala Harris’s name is often on the list when people talk about who will be the first female President of the United States. A strong death penalty opponent, Harris is the top law enforcement officer in San Francisco County. She graduated from Howard and got her law degree at University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Shortly thereafter, in 1990, she joined the DA’s office in Alameda County as a deputy. After eight years, she left to head the Career Criminal Unit in the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. Often labeled soft on crime by her political opponents, Harris had been steadfast in her refusal to seek the death penalty and, more than once, it has created controversy. That has not affected her principled position against the death penalty.

Quote " My mother who is a very strong influence in my life always said 'Kamala you may be the first do many things but make sure you aren't the last'"
