Claim to Fame President of the Majora Carter Group

Bio Who said ecological change has to trickle down from the top and trickle down? With a rallying cry of “Green The Ghetto,” eco-entrepreneur Majora Carter made a splash in environmental circles by creating Sustainable South Bronx (SSBx) in 2001. SSBx followed one core principle that the mainstream environmental movement missed—that people of color in poorer communities deserved the same access to clean water, air, and land as everyone else. To advance what she calls environmental justice, she established a green-collar job training and placement program. The Bronx-born 42-year-old currently heads up her own green consulting organization, the Majora Carter Group, LLC, advising top businesses on how to have a comprehensive green strategy.

Quote No community should be saddled with more environmental burdens and less environmental benefits than any other. Unfortunately, race and class are extremely reliable indicators as to where one might find the good stuff - like parks and trees - and the bad stuff, like power plants and chemical facilities.
