The 2011 Black Girls Rock! award show, hosted by Tracee Ellis Ross and Regina King at the Paradise Theatre in the Bronx, N.Y., Saturday night, celebrated the work and contributions of black women in the arts, business, activism and philanthropy.

Shirley Caesar, Taraji P. Henson, Tatyana Ali and the incomparable Angela Davis were among the honorees, and performers included Erykah Badu, Jill Scott and Mary J. Blige. Actress and reality star La La Anthony, supermodel Alek Wek and actress Tichina Arnold also made appearances as presenters.

The Root caught up with Henson, Davis and other presenters and performers on the red carpet. Watch our exclusive video and see what they had to say about why they -- and black girls all over the world -- rock!

The show will air on BET on Nov. 6 at 8 p.m. EST.
