According to the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, I should not worry about getting a mammogram until I turn 50--nearly 30 years from now. The panel also recommends that women get mammograms biannually instead of annually.
This summer, I had the privilege of teaching journalism to a girl I doubt I will ever forget. I was struck by her confidence and vibrant personality. But she refused to do her work. It was not until she broke down and told me her biggest struggles that I understood why. As a high school senior, she was reading and writing at a 9th grade level. Somewhere down the road something went very wrong with her education. I think it began at home.
The “Wait is Ova Nov. 23.” That is what was announced on Rihanna’s official Web site and Twitter page. What this actually means can be left up to one’s own imagination. Whether or not she’ll be releasing a new album or a single is unknown. But I am sure that all of the Rihanna supporters/ fans cannot wait
Although I have heard that 'Good Hair' is as funny as I would expect any Chris Rock movie to be, I am going to have to sit this one out. This is the case partly because I am cheap but mostly because I feel like I already know this movie without watching it. Trying to figure out what exactly was wrong with my hair used to be a part of my life and it has not been a laughing matter.
In April there were rumors stirring around that Michael Vick was shopping around for a reality television gig while he was in prison. The rumors came as no surprise, at the time Vick was no longer in the NFL and he was flat out broke in prison. Why wouldn't he want to negotiate a deal that would help him crawl out of his hole? Back then his agent Joel Segal denied that the Philadelphia Eagles quarter back was attempting to get a television deal.
For the past 35 years the Latino community in Washington,D.C. has been coming together for their annual Fiesta D.C. Last Sunday, I found myself in the midst of it all. Hundreds of people from Columbia, Ecuador, Panama, Peru, Puerto Rico and any spanish speaking country you can think of filled Mt.Pleasant street.
ABOUT Eboni Farmer I'm a senior at Howard University and I am so ready to the graduate. I don't own a television so I don't watch it too often. I think it has a lot to do with the fact that I didn't have a television in my room growing up. My brother and I were forced to fight over the remote in the living room. Whenever I did watch television I was probably watching CNN, now I just get all of my news on the internet.
