Once described by the New York Times as "the Green Power Broker," Majora Carter is an environmental-justice advocate whose work has earned awards and honors including a MacArthur "genius" fellowship. The host of the Peabody Award-winning public-radio series The Promised Land, she runs an economic consulting and planning firm. The Sustainable South Bronx founder announced plans this year for the nonprofit business incubator Startup Box: South Bronx, which she and her partners hope will make the neighborhood a "mecca for tech entrepreneurs."
