President Obama and Seth Meyers weren't the only ones slamming Donald Trump [5] this weekend. Late-night veteran David Letterman has decided to join in on the festivities as well.
During his show on Thursday night, the Late Show host called Trump's anti-Obama media blitz like he saw it. "My point is it's all fun, it's all circus, it's all a rodeo, until it starts to smack of racism," he said. "And then it's no longer fun... I have heard enough really smart people to convince me that yes, that is very, very insulting...How can you say things like that if you're not a racist?"
Unsurprisingly, Trump wasn't too thrilled by the comments and decided to fire back with a letter to the CBS host: "I was disappointed to hear the statements you made about me last night on your show that I was a 'racist,' " Trump wrote. "In actuality, nothing could be further from the truth, and there is nobody who is less of a racist than Donald Trump...Based upon your statements, and despite the fact that we have always done so well together, especially in your ratings, I am canceling my May 18th appearance on your show."
If Donald Trump thought he'd be able to make bogus accusations to the media and not gain a few enemies along the way, he's got another thing coming. Letterman is allowed to make his own assessment of The Donald, just as he's made his own assessments of the president. If Trump keeps this up, it'll be next to impossible for him to put together a cast for the next season of Celebrity Apprentice.
