Ava DuVernay, one of the inductees into The Root 100 last year, hopes to spread the distribution of black-themed films with her new organization, African-American Film Festival Releasing Movement. In March, black film festivals based in New York, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Seattle and Los Angeles will be the first backers of this movement.
Her new film, I Will Follow, which stars Salli Richardson-Whitfield and Omari Hardwick, will be the first film coming out of the AAFFRM and will be shown in theaters in the aforementioned cities. The film festivals will share the profits from the film for helping to promote its wider release.
