Oprah Winfrey Backs Obama Re-Election Campaign
Oprah Winfrey has backed President Obama's 2012 re-election campaign. The endorsement comes almost half a year after Winfrey said that she would not endorse the president out of fear of alienating viewers who might tune in to her OWN network.
Winfrey, who was a major backer of Obama in 2008, even traveling to campaign stops, praised the president's leadership in the past four years, calling him "masterful."
"I don't need to endorse him because I am a 100 percent supporter of him and I've already endorsed him," Winfrey told CNN on Friday. "If he or his office called me tomorrow and said that they needed me, I would do whatever I thought would be of service."
Oprah said that the economy and restoring American citizens' confidence will be key for the president. "The same thing as the first four years, and that's getting jobs for people and getting our economy back in order, and building a sense of confidence in the American people so that they know that their futures can be sustainable."
While Oprah's endorsement could keep some white, middle-age female voters attached to Obama who seem to be backing away from him, we don't think any celebrity endorsements will be big this election season. It will all come down to jobs, the safety of the country and the economy come November.
