A Mega-Church Pastor's Deep Religious Roots
Rick Warren, author of the best-selling The Purpose-Driven Life and pastor of the Saddleback Ranch mega-church in California, has made religion his life's work. But he didn't know that his family members were playing active roles in the church as far back as the 1600s until he appeared on Finding Your Roots With Henry Louis Gates, Jr.
On the April 15 episode of the show -- which airs Sundays at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT on PBS -- The Root's editor-in-chief talks family roots and faith with Warren, Rabbi Angela Buchdahl and Muslim scholar Yasir Qadhi. Watch a clip of Warren's illuminating meeting with Gates below.
