Muhammad Ali Celebrates 70th Birthday
The boxer many consider to be the greatest ever celebrated his 70th birthday a few days early on Saturday. Muhammad Ali, who turns 70 on Tuesday, partied in his hometown of Louisville, Ky., as hundreds of supporters cheered him on.
Ali, who suffers from Parkinson's disease, waved at fans from the second-floor balcony of his Muhammad Ali Center. The event served as a fundraiser for the center, with admission costing $1,000 per person.
His wife, Lonnie Ali, said recently that the boxing great has mixed feelings about the landmark birthday. "He's glad he's here to turn 70, but he wants to be reassured he doesn't look 70," she said.
It's great to see one of America's most prized figures continue to do well despite his debilitating disease. We wish the man who long floated like a butterfly and stung like a bee a happy early birthday and many more.
