Hey Monty, Your exact quote "The reason I would not vote he has a hate for many one that disagrees with him. Time will tell who was right, MONTY" Please explain this comment and provide proof. Obviously you personally know something about Obama that we don't know. I don't want to believe that you can actually say that he has a hate for anyone who disagrees with him, without proof as this is just spreading lies about him and aiding the smear campaign against him.
And if you have no proof, you have just shown yourself for what you are. Set in your ways and not ready for change. Tell me has this something to do with your age? The race issue does not even come to play because as you say Obama is as much white as he is black - maybe even moreso white -having been raised by his white grandparents. -

"Tonight I can stand here and say that I will be the Democratic nominee for president of the United States," he said, with all the understated drama that has marked his rise to prominen "
There over 19,000,000 voter that stated he will not be in the oval office.
Before all the flames came fly by. At 75 years old I have seen a lot of changes, some for good and not so bad. Obama is just as much white as black. The reason I would not vote he has a hate for many one that disagrees with him. Time will tell who was right, MONTY -

Now for the dream presidencial race. Obama/Clinton vs McCain/Rice. If those running partners run, we can finally stop talking about blacks, whites, women, men running for office and refocus on policies, agendas and the important business of managing the largest, most expensive govenment in the history of the planet. Sure, let's celebrate. Then let's prove we are beyond race and REALY look at Obamas policy goals and what they mean to the bottom line of who works, who keeps their jobs and who pays for his "time of turning the page on the policies of the past." Which policies? How much do they cost, not just in taxes, but in civil liberties. I hope Obama making the nomination can finally move this race beyond the historic achievement of a black man achieving political popularity, and start talking about nuts and bolts issues. -

Many are concerned about Senator Clinton's non-concession Speech a few themghts ago, but Obama should just move on, and stop allowing her to continue in the spotlight. Keep one think in mind, she did lose, didn't she? So to continue to allow her to bast in the limelight is just beyond me.
The 18M votes she got during the Primaries are not her own, she doesn't own them, and it's doubtfull if she can move any significant number of them to Obama anyway. the Polls have indicated 1/3 of her votes in several states were against Obama because of his Race, so Obama will not get them anyway, and that were just those that admitted that they voted along racial lines.
So I don't really understand why he's having these meetings with her since she doesn't have anything to deliver. I've heard she want's her campaign debt paid and a Position in the Administration, but as I indicated she don't have anything to bargain with or deliver.
As I said, she can't deliver any votes. She can get up before a crowd and ask them to support him, but that's no full proof indication that they will, but she'is looking for someone to pay off her debt now for suspected votes in November. It sound as if she is trying to play Obama as being stupid. Plus the Law don't allow him to pay off her debt. He can assist her in some fundraisings, but that's about it. But if her support is so solid, why not have each one of her 18M voter sendl in $1, that should cover it. At least I would think so.

For the underprivlegded, minority youth whom I work with, Obama's story serves as an example of what is now possible. I have always told these precious children that they can be anything they put their minds to....that it's all about making the right choices. I think they have always felt that I was being unrealistic in my expectations. With this event of Obama winning the party nomination it turns into an true reality! I am so whole-heartedly proud of my country. Only in the USA!!! -

ladybee21: If Obama really wants to be President, he needs Clinton, or more to the point, he needs Clinton's 18 million supporters. Most will come over anyway, but George Bush beat John Kerry by only 3 million. So there's got to be some negotiating on both sides. Regarless of people's opinions or preferences in the media and in blog comments, the polls show overwelming support for a unity ticket. Do you want to be right or do you want to win? -

I have to agree - a bit too understated. Every newspaper headline I saw used the word 'history."
Also, could you fix the date? I know it seems longer, but Senator Obama announced his candidacy in February 2007 - not 2006! Gotta check the facts before hitting that publish button.
I hope (a word I use a lot more now) that this can be the start of an America that lives up to its' ideals.

"Are you shitting me?" Is this really the best pronouncement you could come up with about this historic event? If we can have an Obama, maybe we should start demanding more of ourselves, not less. Mediocrity is no longer an option. I have been hearing about this blog where supposedly the black intelligentsia resides. So far, I have been thorougly unimpressed. There are those of us who seek substance, discernment and not the showmanship that is so pervasive in black popular culture. -

All minorities are used to being "humble' in our achievements. I am mad that this moment in my life, in my children's and the rest of my diverse families reflections have had to hear a diminished humble speech (so far as I do believe that Sen. Obama will be the President of the U.S.). I am mad that we still hold back and are afraid to REVEL in our achievement. I have contributed to my first presidential candidate, I have voted in my first primary ! I am PROUD of the man that inspired me to do so. The next President of our country that truly OWES Americans because we have been an active part in his election.

And so, it has come to pass, not the son of a slave but the son of a free African is presented the opportunity to lead or serve America. America has made a step in a new direction. If Mr. Obama chooses to serve America adhering to the soveriegn right of a free people to choose their destiny, we shall see a quickening of the spirit of a free people and the elevation of Democracy as a form of government without equal in the history of the world. If he chooses to lead this nation in the promotion of a Democracy and its continued governance as a Republic, his election to the Presidency is doubtful. If elected, his governance will be fruitless.
We salute him today as a symbol of the possibility of America and pray peace upon his family. The "change" America seeks is the restoration of soveriegn will to its people guided by constitutional principle and not the doctrine of the winning political party. We look forward to tomorrow as America ventures into this brave new world, ever mindful that 'change" takes time. -

First: The Vice-Presidency isn't something you can earn no matter how close you come to winning the nomination. It isn't a spot for second-place finishers. Second: check this view from the floor of the arena last night at http://sethandray.wordpress.com -

The only way Hillary Clinton could bring something new to the ticket would be to divorce Bill. She would be expressing her independence from her true oppressor and ensuring that he wasn't a distraction in the campaign. Otherwise she would just bring scandal and a bad attitude. -

People in this country think we have come so far. Have we? We've come so far that black people are lagging whites in every significant indicator (except drug abuse of course). We've come so far because we can put a black face on white supremacy. People come on!!! Get a damn grip on reality. Obama changes nothing. He works for the Rockefellers of the world. All politicians do whether the realize it or not. This country is doomed and I look forward to the day. Too many people in other countries have suffered for too long because of our greed and overconsumption. Americans cannot see the truth right in front of their eyes. Our apathy towards other countries causes misery and suffering all over this planet. We will get what we deserve and the Bush administration is just the beginning of our punishment for rejecting real change in Kucinich, Nader and McKinney. -

Obama didn't win because of the support he got from regular Americans. He won because of the support he got from our elite-controlled media. The mainstream media lies constantly. You cannot believe anything you see on CNN, MSNBC and definitely not FOX. He also won because of the patriarchal system in this country that still marginalizes women. He also won because he managed to sufficiently distance himself from black issues to appease some whites. It's pretty clear that Obama hates everything that black freedom represents while at the same time he is standing on the shoulders of those before him like MLK and Malcolm X. He is a traitor to his race and to humanity at large for his support of global white supremacy. I wish him hell. -

If Clinton really wants to be VP, SHE needs to be supportive, she needs to mend fences with the people SHE dismissed, black Americans, young people, latte drinkers. She can try and be gracious. She has to show that she is willing an able to say why Obama would be an excellent president after months of explaining why he was sooooo horrible. I don't think she can do it, and I think that, on the whole, it is a bad idea. She is not a change I can believe in, because I don't believe she can change. Jim Webb is my pick.
At this point she needs to recognize his victory to begin the healing. It is on her to model the spirit of unity. Obama has ALREADY done his part. She has to stop trying to bribe her way into power and instead support her party's chosen candidate for president.
Yes we can. -

This is truly amazing, i feel so priveledged to be a part of this. I used to watch footage of the 50's 60's and 70's like wow... They truly made CHANGES back then. I am so happy that here and now, in 2008, we have our OWN big deal to embrace and lift up in awe and amazement. I made my 2 year old watch Obama make his speech last night, and he said "mama, Barack Obama is change?" he was repeating what someone said in the crowd. All I could do is smile and say "yes baby, Barack Obama is change." -

I agree whole-heartedly. Division has ruled this country long enough. It is time for a big change. As for me, I am no longer embarrassed to be a citizen but astonished on how far we have come. Dealing with racism and the other controversey was hard for both presidential hopefuls. Now it is time to join forces and make one powerful blow to change. -

Nominee of the Democratic party is one thing. President is another. It's time to have another first in this country. So, go out and get everyone you know registered and out to the polls in November.
And let's go mend some fences with those Clinton supporters you know. Obama is going to need the whole house, but we're the ones that have to make it happen.
