O don't take heed to anything bob Johnson says about anyone. Here is a man who sold out by selling BET which is now the worse stereotypical station that puts down Blacks. I'm not voting for Obama because he is a bnack man but because he is the best person for the job. I fell in love with him when he was the keynote speaker when Clinton was first running for president. We do need a change, not the status quo. -

Bob Johnson, a house slaves, that's the way they think. He is so blind to take the truth to the white man doorstep. He is the type that believe i'm black , i'm ok, i don't believe a black guy could be American president. Go and look for another job, Sorry , you don't deserve to be BET founder.
Perhaps, you still habor Blackstereotypism, or you have problem with Barack Obama having direct connection with Kenya, African root , like some Black does. -

I agree. Clinton is just one of the Good Ole Boys. She is riding on the tail of the husband who was the "First Black President" and her true "colors" keep show'ing up day after day. She has been doing the same sort of dirty deeds that the white men have been doing for years and she is still getting away with it by crying foul--"You're picking on me because I'm a woman!" I am tired of it. I am tired of her -- and I am a woman!

I don't have a problem with Bob Johnson being loyal to the Clintons. I applaud loyalty. I also applaud Bill Richardson for backing Barack Obama, inspite of his long relationship with the Clintons. He made the decision that he thought was right. My issue with Bob Johnson is that he's using racial politics against another black man, to help a white politician. That sickens me on a deep level. He, more than anyone, should understand the struggles of the prominent black person to be respected for what you do, not what you ARE. Johnson should understand that no matter how much money he has, or how successful he becomes, to his white peers (well...they probably don't see him as a peer at all) he's still largely just the black guy in the room. Nothing more. -

A fool with money is just a fool with money. Bob Johnson, who if it were not for Mayor Marion Berry would be just an unknown fool. -

I wish my grandmother were still with us. She'd handle Bob Johnson, and all the damage he's done to Black America. Boy, she'd say, get out there and get me a switch so I can whip the black off of you. -

Your article makes a strong argument - based on the list of criteria you lay out, there's no way Clinton would have made it this far in the Democratic primary. However, even more important than her gender is the identity of her spouse - being the spouse of a popular former President trumps gender or race in lifting a candidate above other facts about their history or identity.

My greater concern is "What if Bob Johnson was a principled Black man?"
If Barack Obama was not Black he would be The Great White Hope that racist White Democrats (liberals/progressives) and hankerchief head Blacks are trying to turn Billary into.
Magic wand anyone?

indeed. i've seen the lowest common denominator and propriety discarded throughout this process. hillary clinton does not embody the creativity not the individualism to represent a "point of light" bill clinton still has the weight of the family and it is testament to his largess that his cache' to a great extent has been passed along to his wife. the mystery of marriage and the dynamics of a higher agenda as played out in this democratic scenario has revealed a lessor principled bill clinton, the facade frankly is fascinatingly illuminating. bob johnson represents a black man who shamelessly exploited the known, given and accepted african-american stereotypes to his own financial gain and there are a few carefully assembled words that easily describe his character, or lacking therein. there have always been these type of brothers (and sisters) sitting at the gate and casting commentary in support of the dominant culture. shame on mr. johnson Tcochran -

If Bob Johnson were a white man he would be excoriated as a racist for exploiting black women by promoting rap music with misogynistic images and lyrics. He and Ferraro just don't get it that people want CHANGE. The change candidate could have been white, black, male or female and been successful. Ironically Mr Johnson now personifies typical objections to affirmative action, though I'm willing to bet that he, like Clarence Thomas have benefited from it. -

This is messed up. Just because other people say stupid stuff about Obama's race being the deciding factor doesn't make it okay to downplay sexism. Two wrongs don't make a right. -

Hilary would have never become a U.S. Senator in a state she never lived in if she wasn't a first lady. How many women go from never holding any political office to becoming a U.S. Senator? How many non-White people?
