Why did we ever allow this "War on Drugs," to begin with? Didn't anyone see anything wrong with America declaring WAR on its own people? It is a shame that the gangbangers were the only Americans with the heart to fight back. Who let the drugs into the country to start with? Oh, could that be the same federal government which has failed to protect our standard of living by allowing illegal immigrants to drive down wages? -

Well thanks to the Racist black race, prisons are not as safe for the white race.
And there less likely to repeat the crimes. And how do you think the White tax payer feels having to house these blacks and beaners. Welfare was not enough? -

Professor Bobo cites that the rate of incarceration for Black men is 1 in 15 and for HIspanics 1 in 36 as opposed to 1 in 106 for non-Hispanic (White) men. This is surely to imply that America's police and justice system is biased against non-whites (Blacks in particular) and is jailing them with an agenda. Of course the other question dare not be asked which is, "Does this not rather reflect the prediliction for crime of the Black and Hispanic 'communities'?" Were, after all are all the ghettoes and high-crime areas in major cities located but in Black and Hispanic dominated neighborhoods? After all, ghettoes don't just make themselves and I dare say that no white man or system put Blacks in the crime-ridden and drug-infested neighborhoods they live in today. And another question that bears asking is that if our system is so biased in favor of whites, why are there not large numbers of Indian, Asian and other rather numerous non-white peoples being arrested and jailed? The simple fact is that one cannot compare African-American incarceration with the Russian Gulag where innocents were sent on the whims of a totalitarian government run amock. Rather the statistics cited by Professor Bobo reflect Black America's refusal to take responsibility for its' own state of affairs. Whites (and others) do not avoid Blacks or Hispanics because of the "color of their skin". It has never been that way. That is, and has always been a simplistic way of avoiding the real issue. The fact is that all peace-loving, decent people avoid violent ones. What modern Political Correctness refuses to believe is that a whole culture can indeed be bred and fostered on violence and crime. It is wrong to make blanket statements to be sure. However, the statistics show that a problem clearly exists. White flight is due not to ignorance but rather to a knowledge of facts as they stand. When those facts change, and those responsible for violence and blight stop it, then things will be different. There have been calls for change and efforts to that effect within the Black community. However, much remains to be done. Until the statistics cited by Professor Bobo change, things will stand as they are. The police and justice system are not, after all, composed of whites only. ---Z. The fact that the USA locks up so many of its population is indicative of the political thinking in the country. The disproportional representation of white drug offenders suggests that another 12,649.333 of them should be incarcerated - now surely that will please the corporatocracy?! -

It sounds to me if certian drugs were legalized, such as pot, the non-violent affenders would not be in jail thus reduceing the amount of african americans in prison.
By the way, Dave Allens post is right on the money. As a buddist would say you must seek change with in yourself in order to change the outside.
We must stop blaming the white man and fix ourselves. -

Yes, whites probably use illegal drugs as often as blacks, but people who can afford good lawyers are more difficult to prosecute successfully. Furthermore, complaints about the imprisonment rate were the motivation for concentrating on sellers instead of users. Are whites, proportionally speaking, equally involved in the marketing of illegal drugs?
But it doesn't really matter; black involvement with drugs and their access to good lawyers is what it is. If we don't want blacks going to prison in large numbers over drugs, perhaps we should challenge the War on Drugs itself. After all, regardless of disparate treatment, blacks can avoid doing time for illegal drugs simply by having nothing to do with them. If we don't think it's reasonable to expect blacks to avoid drugs, then why are we supporting the War on Drugs in the first place?
Dr. King spoke out against the Vietnam War. Why have no black leaders spoken out against the War on Drugs? Eliminating it -- legalizing the use of heroin and crack-cocaine -- should be for blacks a political prioirty. Since this wouldn't take money out of white people's pockets, you'd probably face less resistance than with other issues. -

I have walked down the streets of DC and the gangs on the corners and being black isnt enough, they attack theyre own people today they committ crimes that in yesterday blacks wouldnt have nerve enough to do, and you say MLKing would cry, about what the wrongs we decide to do, about the rapes our inner self make us do because we are not in control of, we make these decisions to do or not to do, what about those who dont rape, rob, deal drugs, they dont get no tears for what they went through, to say that MLKing would be upset is far out there, we as black people dont haVE TO DO THESE THINGS JUST AS THE SERIAL KILLER WHICH IS USALLY WHITE, we need to stop making the black mans decisions seem THEY HAD TO DO BECAUSE OF ?, many poor people have never killed or raped and live a somewhat dire exsistance but still manage not to break the law, I use to be a dealer and it was my decision to sell, use rob, thank God I didnt kill, yet many times I thought of doing it.. GIVE ME A BREAK, MLKING WILL SEE IT FOR WHAT IT IS WEAKNESS -

Someone tagged this condition as a "new holocaust" for African American men. How can we stop this recidivism and cycle of entrapment?-

There is another Black Gulag just 90 miles from the U.S. in Cuba where most of the political prisoners of conscience (not to mention most of the population) recognized even by Amnesty International, are Afro-Cuban and Mulattos. And where real Afro-Cuban Mandelas have served prison sentences longer than Mandela did, without any support from their North American brethren; people like Pe??alver, 28 years in a dungeon, not house arrest. Or like Dr. Biscet now serving 25 years (two already). All they did was trying to implement the same methods that MLK used in order to bring social change in Cuba! In 50 years of the Castro dynasty, can anyone mention even one single Afro-Cuban in a position of real power in Cuba? Or one that had the privilege to run for office like Obama can? When is the African American intelligentsia going to recognize the harm they have done to their Afro-Cuban brothers and sisters for having supported the most racist regime of Latin America for decades, just because they want to spite the US government? -

Brothers and Sisters the message is clear, the disproportionate amount of people of color is at an all time high. But we cannot forget what our eyes see everyday in urban areas in America. The lack of respect by by our own people, TO OUR OWN PEOPLE. Profanity filled conversation, littering of our neighborhoods, theft, armed robbery and other Black on Black crimes that must be addressed before we begin to point any finger.
No I am not republican, but an African American man that is not afraid to tell our young men and women to BEHAVE, LEARN and Strive to do better.
What's wrong with staying at home and preparing yourself by reading and finishing school?
Yes the White Man has been a thorn in our butts for centuries, however you have to keep on pushing in your life's preperation.
Will the journey be hard? Yes, but it's something that no one can take from you.
Just my thoughts... -

It is a sad commentary on Amerikah when it has a disproportionate amount of minorities incarcerated. The main reason why so many of us are in the "BIG HOUSE" is because building jails and keeping folks there is $$$PROFITABLE.
This country would rather build jailhouses all day, instead of doing the right thing and building more schools.
This country is all about the all-mighty DOLLAR$$$$. It does not care whose
father, son, mother, or daughter who happens to get caught out there and
winds up behind bars.
Dr. King spent a few nights in jail but for a PURPOSE. There is no purpose
now for so many of us to be behind bars!!!!!!!-
