He spoke the truth! Hopefully the speech will encourage more people to have a
positive dialogue about race. It's to bad the media only chose to highlight the more
    controversial parts of his speech.

I've never heard a speech on race relations in America by a government official be so profoundly inspirational, candid and personal. I was proud to be an American!

I wish more people had a chance to read it. I'm forwarding this text to my friends. It is speech of peace...with a dare to work together.

Thank you for printing Barak Obama's full speech as I had only heard clips on the television and on the internet.
I am a 61-year-old white retiree who returned to Iowa. My mother was widowed with five children in 1954. She raised us in southwest Iowa to not be prejudiced against blacks, but she herself was very fearful of them. Lynchings in northern Missouri where she was raised were used to terrorize both whites and blacks. Yet, while she was afraid, she did not hate.
During World War II she worked in a Kansas City airplane factor and propaganda taught her to hate the Japanese. This was ensured when her younger brother was killed his first day in battle in Okinawa. Yet years later when she met her first black person, a shopper in Kansas City, she told me, "She was nice." And when she met her Japanese neighbor in Clarinda, Iowa, she told me he was a nice person, too.
Hate and fear can be taught, but we can change--if we choose to.
Through her example my brother and sisters and I have chosen not to hate. We may fear sometimes, but thankfully our culture is providing more opportunities to see that people different than us....can be nice people, too.

II listened to Mr. Gates tonight on Tavis Smiley and checked him out on the internet and then found The Root. I continue to "perfect" my open mind by listening and reading thoughtful dialogue and have added The Root to "my favorites."

The speech in its entirety is very thought provoking and clear. The pon troblems of race and the solutions Mr. Obama mentioned is right on target.

That was an awesome speech. I was blown away when he made and I am still blown away when I read it again. I understand fully his position on Rev. Wright and agree wih him. There are people that you respect you don't believe in all of their views but that does not change how you feel about them. If his speech does not stop the criticism. It is because there are people that are looking for anything to stop his momentum. I don't believe they can stop him. Barack Obama is an awesome individual. I must read his book

That was an awesome speech. I was blow away by it when I first heard it. And I am still blow away after reading it. If that don't clear up all the rhetoric regarding Rev. Wright then there are people that continue to make anything out of nothing.
