From Twitter to MLK: Happy Birthday!
The official Martin Luther King holiday isn't until Monday, Jan. 21, but the late civil rights leader's birthday, of course, is Jan. 15.
Today, the day he would have turned 84 years old, Twitter is abuzz with everything from his most inspirational and still-applicable quotes to statements mourning that he is no longer with us. Here are just a few:
MLK was killed in Memphis fighting for the wages of sanitation workers. Not hedge fund managers. Not rappers. GARBAGE MEN. #MLKDay "America will never be free until the descendants of her slaves are freed completely from the shackles they still wear" #MLK #MLK would have been 84 years old today. He reasonably could've lived to this age. We were robbed of at least 45 years of his activism. "The time is always right to do what is right." -Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. #MLK Happy Birthday to a man who was born in Atlanta, boycotted in Montgomery, and died in Memphis. Cheers to you, you Southern Gentleman.. #MLK Like The Root on Facebook. Follow us on Twitter.
