Trial of BART Cop Accused of Murdering 22-year-old Postponed
Justice takes a break. The trial of BART cop Johannes Mehserle, who is accused of fatally shooting 22-year-old Oscar Grant, was postponed temporarily because of California furloughs. Yes, you read right. The state of California does not have enough money to make sure that Officer Mehserle--facing trial for shooting Grant, who was on the ground with Officer Tony Pirone's knee in his back at the time of the shooting--is brought to justice. It is alleged that Pirone routinely "roughed up" suspects and this situation spiraled out of control, ending with Grant's death. It is a sad day when alleged murderers catch a break because of the state's inability to manage its money.
