Plaxico Burress: From Giants to Jets
Plaxico Burress is officially back in the NFL. The former Pro Bowl wide receiver is heading to the New York Jets after serving 2 1/2 years in prison for a gun charge. Burress, who previously played with the Pittsburgh Steelers and then the New York Giants, signed a one-year, $3 million contract.
ESPN reports that the veteran wide receiver, who turns 34 in two weeks, said he chose the Jets over his two former teams because he felt "all the pieces are in place" to compete for a championship. The Philadelphia Eagles, San Francisco 49ers and St. Louis Rams also expressed interest.
Not bad for someone who got out of jail in June. It will be interesting to see what, if any, impact being away from the field since 2008 will have on his performance. After all, Burress caught the game-winning pass in the Giants Super Bowl XLII win over the New England Patriots. Expectations will be high. Hopefully he will live up to them.
