Obama Administration Heads to Court Over SB 1070
Let's get ready to rumble (in our best Michael Buffer voice)! The Obama administration is going to court over Arizona's controversial SB 1070 immigration law. The law requires state and local police, during lawful contact, to investigate the immigration status of anyone they reasonably suspect of being an illegal immigrant. Protesters and activists have called the law racist and a violation of civil rights, saying that it is legalized racial profiling. Proponents say that it will help stop the flow of illegal immigrants, which will supposedly lead to a reduction in drug trafficking and crime. The federal government says that dealing with illegal immigration is its job, and the state of Arizona is treading on its turf. Game on.
