Is Newt Gingrich Finally Right?
In her Chicago Sun-Times column, Laura S. Washington celebrates GOP presidential front-runner Newt Gingrich's recent pronouncement that he will be the nominee. With all of his baggage, she says, it would be fun to watch President Barack Obama's campaign bounce him around like a billiard ball.
... The Romney-ites have more to worry about than ducking cue balls from the Democrats. They fear the Rise of the Newt. In recent days, Gingrich has been cresting near the top of numerous polls. The former House Speaker is doing well in Iowa and recently snared a prized endorsement from the New Hampshire Union Leader. The media is treating him like a front-runner. That’s a pretty good showing for this thrice-married, Tiffany buying, fat-cat lobbyist for the 1 percent.
It would be so delicious to watch the Obama campaign bounce him around the billiard table.
Gingrich embraced his new status last Thursday with this hubristic declaration to ABC News:
“I’m going to be the nominee. It’s very hard not to look at the recent polls and think that the odds are very high I’m going to be the nominee.”
Wouldn’t it be nice if, for once, Gingrich is right.
