Hot 97 Deejay Busted for Public Sex With Man
The New York Daily News is reporting that Hot 97 disc jockey and record producer Mister Cee (Calvin Lebrun) was arrested last Wednesday for public lewdness when police found him receiving oral sex from another man in his car.
He and his companion, Lawrence Campbell, 20, were reportedly in a car parked at Watts and West Streets, where their "behavior was open to public view," the criminal complaint said.
Cee first became known in the hip-hop world as Big Daddy Kane's DJ. He moved on to produce "Ready to Die," Notorious B.I.G.'s first album. Today he hosts New York's Hot 97's Throwback at Noon show.
Both men were charged with public lewdness and exposure of a person and released; they are due back in court in June.
While we certainly don't expect an outpouring of support and sympathy for illegal behavior (even when it's seemingly victimless), these events have truly revealed the worst in many people. The black Twitterverse in particular has already taken to some of the most hateful anti-homosexual language we've seen in a long time (tempered by just a few refreshing defenses like, "If y'all care more about Mister Cee being intimate with a dude than about him dj'ing for Kane and bringing us Ready to Die, #growthe#!@%*#up").
We'll see what happens in court, but for now, the real tragedy is the predictable but nonetheless disappointing homophobic reaction to this story.
