Herman Cain on Rick Perry's 'Ni--erhead Ranch': 'Plain Insensitive'
News One is reporting that Republican presidential hopeful Herman Cain criticized the name of a hunting camp once leased by Gov. Rick Perry's family as "just plain insensitive."
The name of the camp -- "Niggerhead" -- was first reported by the Washington Post on Saturday. The paper said the name was painted on a rock at the entrance of the property. Perry reportedly began hosting fellow lawmakers, friends and supporters at the secluded ranch early in his career.
"My reaction is, that's just very insensitive," Cain told Fox. "[There] isn't a more vile, negative word than the n-word, and for him to leave it there as long as he did, before I hear that they finally painted over it, is just plain insensitive to a lot of black people in this country."
Perry's name for the ranch is plain insensitive to a lot of people in this country, period. Is "insensitive" all that a very outspoken Cain could muster in addressing this issue? Cain should try "racist" and "appalling" as descriptors and actually say that Perry's act is not reflective of someone seeking the presidency in the new millennium.
What's interesting to us is that the GOP, particularly Tea Party members, subscribe to this type of racist ideology, so we find it perplexing that Cain is stunned by this discovery about Perry. Does Cain think that they don't call him the n-word behind his back because they don't call him that to his face? Perry is shaking Cain's hand at GOP debates while harboring this secret.
Cain cannot be this naive, and Perry cannot be this stupid. "Niggerhead" is not only an intentional label but also a threat toward black folks, including Cain. It is interesting what folks will overlook in the pursuit of power: Cain overlooks racism, while Perry pretends to overlook Cain's race.
For Cain to call Perry's act "insensitive" is an understatement, to say the least. On the topic of Rick Perry -- this latest revelation is yet another indicator of why Perry should not be elected president of the United States. He clearly lacks common sense and decency.
