The bad news continues rolling in for students and faculty at Florida A&M.

Three weeks after the shocking, hazing-related death of drum major Robert Champion on a band trip to Orlando, three students at the school have been arrested for beating a student to the point that her thigh bone was broken.

Sean Hobson, 23, and Aaron Golson, 19, were charged Monday with hazing and battery, and James Harris, 22, was charged with hazing. All three were members of the band.

According to Tallahassee police, student Bria Shante Hunter was beaten with fists and a metal ruler to initiate her into a group for Georgia band members called "Red Dawg Order." The initiations took place on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1.

The initiation took a turn for the worst when Hunter contacted police after the pain from the hazing became unbearable. She then went to the hospital to find blood clots in her legs and a broken thigh bone.

Police say the incident happened when Hunter tried to get out of a group meeting. When Golson and Hobson found out, they allegedly punched her on the tops of her thighs. The second beating reportedly came when Hunter and other pledges forgot certain words they were supposed to recite.

Every day we learn something new about hazing rituals. But one part of them that we always believed to be fact was that they were male-to-male and female-to-female. The idea that three men had fun beating a woman to the point where her life was threatened is sickening.

When news broke of the death of Robert Champion, we thought this was an unfortunate one-time occurrence that happens at every school. But obviously, the culture of hazing is an issue at FAMU, and heads need to roll.
